I recently picked up for my 1999 4Runner what was supposed to be an OEM 3rdGen 4R radio w/CD that had been converted for BlueTooth compatibility. I had posted here about this some time back and have further researched the issue elsewhere but haven’t found any info that resolves the issue. I’m hoping someone can assist me in identifying the appropriate Toyota amp.

The modified radio’s model number is 86120-04090. It was advertised as a plug-and-play upgrade, but the plug from my original amp does not fit the new radio. See pictures. The original harness in my car has the plug receptacle arrangement as vertical slots, while the new radio’s plugs are horizontal. Does anyone know the p/n of an OEM amplifier that will plug into this radio? I’m beginning to wonder if this radio actually came out of a 4R or whether it was from another Toyota from this era. I went with this radio trying to keep the dash stock while allowing connection to my iPhone, but it appears this might not have been a good idea!

If anyone has any ideas, I’d much appreciate your suggestions or recommendations so I can finally reassemble the dash and drive with musical accompaniment!

    Regards,
    Tom

Here are the receiver part numbers I came up with for a '99
I don't see the part number you are referring to...

    86120-08010
FUJITSU TEN, ID=16408, AM/FM ETR CASSETTE 4 SPEAKER

    86120-08110
    DELCO, ID=AD6803

    86120-0W060
    MATSUSHITA, ID=51707, AM/FM ETR CST 6 SPEAKER

    86120-35160
    MATSUSHITA, ID=51800, AM/FM ETR CD 6 SPEAKER

    86120-35170
MATSUSHITA, ID=56808, AM/FM ETR CST CD 6 SPEAKER

    And the amp numbers

    86280-35070
    AM/FM ETR CST 6 SPEAKER

    86280-35080
AM/FM ETR CST CD 6 SPEAKER

BLKNBLU: Thanks much for providing that info. I found one or two references to the radio’s model number when I searched, and did see mention of both 4Runner and Corolla usage, but this was on eBay item descriptions and not a Toyota page. Neither mentioned year of installation. And no listing of a compatible amp. I do think I’ll need to find the appropriate amp, since my radio only had the tape deck and this one will need outputs for the CD player. Where did you find that reference list of serial numbers?

    Thanks
    Tom

Are you trying to find an amp that will work with the receiver you have now? Or trying to find a correct receiver for the amp you have?

I’m trying to find an amp that will plug into the replacement radio I purchased, which has been modified to work with BlueTooth. This has a CD player, which my original radio did not have. The original amp has wiring that does not fit the receptacles on the back of the “new” Toyota radio, so I want to pull the original amp for one appropriate to the replacement radio. I haven’t been able to find any info that matches OEM radios to their corresponding amps. Thanks very much for your assistance in this!

Still working on it. I’ve been searching and found a couple of places with general info, but it appears that this model radio, with the CD player, may not have been used in the 4Runner. I’ve been trying to find a specific Toyota model that lists this radio so I can search by year and car. I’ve also decided I may as well approach Crutchfield to see if they sell an amp that would plug in to the radio. I saw some radio wiring kits they sell that may work, but I need to call them and run this down definitively. Not as easy a plug-and-play swap as advertised!

Thank you for all your efforts in assisting me sort this out. Very much appreciated. I will report the results to the forum one way or another.
