All the usual locations under the hood are taken up by other things. I thought one of the two kits that mount it behind the grille, but have concerns about the location during various activities. It's still an option though. Ideas welcome here, too. I actually think we're down to one company making a behind the grille option now.

Desert Does It underseat. That area is taken up as well. There's also conflicting information on whether the dual compressor will fit under there. Moot point either way.

So I've been eyeing the rear cubby. I was curious to see if anyone had done this so I can get some ideas. This won't be something I can take days to mess with. I have to pull out my packed drawers to figure things out. So any ideas to speed the process would be great.

I've only gotten as far as a universal mount with the possibility of adding some very strong magnets. I have a feeling this won't work well because the area behind the plastic isn't flat.

You didn’t mention the type of compressor you’re using, that might make a difference in how you go about it.

I’d pass on the magnets, I don’t think I’d trust them.

I’ve heard of the rear cubby (where the bottle jack is) but never have seen one in person.

I know you said there’s no room in the engine bay, so you’ve already considered the location by the passenger firewall (sometimes people forget about that one).

So I’d pursue the bottle jack location.

    Good luck
    Mike

I keep it simple. I have a portable compressor. When its needed I take it out from the bag -> Connect the hose -> Plug in to the 12V battery -> Inflate the tires.

This is the way. I mean, how often are you really using a compressor? This might take a bit longer, but slow down and enjoy the scenery.

While the OP didn’t mention it, some folks have air lockers. That’s a good reason for on board air

That would be helpful, huh? It's an ARB dual compressor.

As far as under the hood, all the normal places are taken up. The passenger side space has the secondary air pump re-located there so I could relocate the washer reservoir into the space at the front of the engine bay.

The driver's side area has a switch panel brain thing there.

I do that now and after absent mindedly grabbing the compressor after use or burning the carpet on another vehicle, I'm done with the portables.

I have been looking as well because my Viair 450P is not up to the task of using my Moreflate Air Hub so I was looking at the ARB twin and where to mount it. I do not like the behind the grill or the under seat mounts. I was looking at Mountain Offroad because it mounts on the passenger side and you can run the ARB tank underneath but really I'm just using it to air up so I may just go with the portable option.

That was the mount I had initially wanted. While I don't really need the tank, it'd be nice to have just in case.

Everybody’s hack job is different. My washer tank was in the way, only I went with the Rago tank relocation kit. It was the only thing I could find that allowed me to get my dual ARB mounted by the passenger firewall. My wife objected to the sound of the compressor so the under hood location was the compromise. It turns into a bit of a puzzle finding space and fitting it together while still being able to close the hood‍. And yes, the ARB pairs nicely with the lockers :spending:

Sounds to me like you got too many things going on in the engine bay. This is where I have mine as most use this spot for it.

Driving mostly in the desert, the under the hood space does not make any sense due to sand getting everywhere. I wired mine at the back, above the wheel well on driver side - the "tray" there perfectly fits a single piston arb (got 4 lines setup, so I don't really care if takes 2 minutes more to fill up 34s than a dual piston arb). Thinking about a full size drawer system - I will definitely keep a compartment for compressor where it is now.

EDIT: I've seen a few installations done under the passenger seat, but this requires at least 1" spacer to offset the seat rails. Many chose this approach too..

I installed a single air compressor in the cargo area cubby over the wheel well. A single compressor is all I need and is good enough to fill tires and other things that need air.

@ChessGuy I have a couple of questions. Which mount is that? Where do you have the switch mounted? What did you do with the wiring harness that was mounted to the side? Are the wires long enough to reach the battery terminals along the back and drivers side? Planning on adding a ARB dual on the passenger side and figuring it all out. Thanks!

After playing the musical chair game beginning with the usual next to the main fuse box under the hood to passenger side firewall I ended up relocating the washer fluid reservoir, eliminated the fill spout and made a quick release bracket for my ARB single. It’s a tight fit but works great, and I can pull it, plug in a 12V extension cord with battery clips to use independently from my 4R.

I have had lasfit brand for about 1.5 years now. I am very happy with it. Small, portable, durable. Good quality too. Saves space. Suits MY needs. I am speaking for myself, I would like to point it out, so that nobody will try to eat me for it, like it happened on this site in the past...

It has been a while but I can't remember the tray we used on the side where the fuse box is located. But I remember that we did the switch pro from Shqd or Sdhq...one of the two and maybe they gave us the tray where we mounted the compressor. And yes, the connections are long enough that they can get to the battery terminals. This pic might show it.

@ChessGuy Thank you. Most likely going with the M.O.R.E. mount. Seems like the best option for passenger side.
