My '05 SR5 has 178k miles, and cold idles around 1000rpm; smoothly and with no hesitation. Acceleration is also quick and smooth. MAFS was just cleaned.
I was going to clean the throttle body but I've read that, unless the engine runs poorly and/ or gas mileage is poor, it is not necessary. Additionally, resetting the ECU is required.
Should I go ahead and thoroughly clean the throttle body and, is disconnecting the battery's negative terminal to reset the ECU, necessary?
    Thanks!

Not absolutely necessary, but I still would. Taking off the negative terminal for a few minutes will reset the idle learning and your fuel trim levels. Your ECU would eventually adapt on it's own, but it'd be faster IMHO to reset and let it adapt from scratch.

Thanks! I wouldn't mind doing that, however, all of the settings on my sound system would also require resetting and that's a pain!

The videos I have watched and the posts here in cleaning the throttle body say you should disconnect the battery's negative terminal before cleaning it.
Once you have cleaned and reassembled the throttle body, you reconnect the negative terminal and, after a few miles of driving, your truck's ECU "relearns" and adjusts to accommodate the cleaned TB.
