    Wondering how many clean the MAF mass airflow sensor on a regular basis, following 4runner 4.0 liter vid indicates that MAF should be cleaned every 10-15K miles, doubtful mine has ever been cleaned;

    If you run OEM paper filters and a stock intake, you should rarely have to clean it. Check it each filter change.

    if you run an aftermarket intake and oiled filter, you should clean it often. Or better yet get rid of the aftermarket intake and oiled filter snake oil and go back to OEM intake and filter.

    I see a lot of dirty MAF sensors when I’m tuning vehicles, but almost exclusively on vehicles with aftermarket intakes and oiled filters or aftermarket dry filters.

    I use this to clean them:

    Thanks Bortis nice to have a definitive answer about MAFs and aftermarket filters, picking up a can of CRC Mass AirFlow Sensor Cleaner this afternoon for a couple of vehicles.

    I literally just got back from the "zone known for autos" getting some crc and performing a cleaning myself, like 10 mins ago. I haven't gotten back out since cleaning, but I'm getting 14.8-16.1 in city. I'll keep you posted. I have the trd cold air intake kit.

    When you clean your MAF, just spray it on and let it evaporate. Don’t touch or “scrub” anything.

    Okay, I’m getting between 17.5-19.5 mpgs after 30 miles around town running errands. Red lights galore. The meter seems to be less weighted when touching the throttle and is hovering around the 30mpg mark when coasting instead of the old 15 mark before. Hopefully it will last for a bit.

    Bortis do you use dielectric grease when reinstalling electrical connectors such as this one on the MAF ? Thanks.

    Removed MAF sensor this morning; metal elements and plastic body looked clean but sprayed it down anyway with CRC cleaner, some black soot looking stuff dripped into the towel I was using. After cleanup drove around the city for about 1/2 hour and noticed throttle response improved and truck idles smoother when stopped at lights.

    I don’t, but I’m not in a humid environment and don’t run my vehicles in water much. Although we’ve had a TON of snow this winter.
