Curious has anyone removed the trim below the doors and painted it off the vehicle or is everyone doing it in the car and just mask around?

Also, has anyone ordered the window moulding pieces that go between door and windows? On the Limited these are also chrome but I’m contemplating changing them to the black style. Wondering on quality since these are non-OEM.

There was a shop in Miami that did a few, i REALLY liked it and was looking for a Limited with red rock interior and was going to color match or go black on the chrome.
    BUT
in October 2021 Toyota released the TRD Sport which uses the Limited body but has all the chrome painted in color matched color. We really REALLY liked the OEM style and look and liked it came in the super white rather than the pearl so we searched and found one of them. There are plenty of ideas you can get by looking at the TRD Sport 4r, this is what yours would look like if you took it to someone and let them color match and wrap the chrome. You are going to get a better durability out of a vinyl wrap on the chrome vs painting it. The chrome ALWAYS chips, paint wont stick to it, i would recommend color matched vinyl wrap or a black vinyl if you want black. I used to have pix saved in my phone of that place in Miami that was wrapping them with black wrap, a white limited with the chrome wrapped in black was sexy. I really liked the Nightshade look but hated the black chrome, it water spots so bad. We got one of those in 2019 and hated the water spots on the black chrome. We eventually bought a black grille and had it painted and traded it in after the misses got tired of the water spots on the black chrome. Had i known back then how easy it was to have someone wrap everything, i would have done that and we might have still had that vehicle.

I swapped the rocker panel covers for the non-limited versions (OEM), but if you are looking to keep the Limited rocker panel covers, having the chrome trim wrapped would probably be the better option vs painting as stated above. I wrapped the chrome trim piece on the rear bumper and its held up great.
As for the window moulding pieces, I swapped mine out, but used OEM parts. Easy install and looks much better than chrome.

Yah the rear portion I am going to put a piece of 3M vinyl protective film over it to prevent it rubbing off due to the fact as you get close to the tailgate to load stuff. So that should hold that up. Would probably do something below the door mouling as well, at least in the door area where you get in and out to prevent shoes/clothing to drag on it.

Do you have photos of the window molding and the finished look?

I like the steps but I’m sure my wife won’t. Just for the heck of it did they bolt right up? Or was a modification required to make them work? Thanks.

If you get rid of the Limited rocker panel covers, and go with non-limited, it opens up a lot of options for steps. These are direct bolt-on.

Thank you. Appreciate your quick reply. I would like to do this but I know I’m going to hear it from my wife getting in and out. Her idea of a lifted vehicle is anything higher than a Mazda Miata.

@MTBVRF that looks great! I like the rocker swap for the Limited - mainly to allow for sliders. Looks better too. Did you swap the rear fender "flares" to non-Limited flares? it's hard to tell in the pic.

I also have a Chrome delete 4runner limited and I am also wondering which N-Fab side steps you have installed on your rig? My issue was the mounting brackets were not deep enough and the Xreas system has also hindered a few other modification decisions.

    Thanks.
No, I did not. Being that it is a dark color, I didn't think it was noticeable. If it was a lighter color, I would. I may still swap them in the future - I saw a different thread where somebody mentioned a company that had reasonably priced color matched non-limited flares, and then you would just have to get the OEM clips.

I like the look of your Limited in Nautical Blue have a 2024 on order hope to get one before the change over to 2025. Fingers, knees and toes crossed. Enough about my third world problems, I am curious on what you used for all your chrome delete? Overlays, OEM’s parts etc. I want to do the same if I get a Limited. Thank you for any help, sorry if you have posted all this before , I am a new member and just trying to find my way around this whole crazy world. Peace.

    Welcome to the forum.
For the front end, I used 4runner Lifestyle and Cartrimhome overlays:
    https://www.4runnerlifestyle.com/co...lifestyle-limited-black-front-bumper-overlays
    https://cartrimhome.com/Front-Bumper-Grille-Replacement-For-Toyota-4Runner-Limited

For the sides, I used OEM door handles and window moldings, along with SR5 or ORP rocker panel covers (also need the clips and front mudflaps (optional))

For the rear, I used a Cartrimhome overlay and 3M vinyl warp for the rear bumper chrome strip.

I forgot about the badges. For the limited badges, I actually used replacement badges as the 3rd party overlays fit like crap.
For the front Toyota emblem, I think I used 4runner lifestyle.

Ya, There's this product called paint? Its in spray form or you can get a brush and do it. Its simple really once you get the hang of it you can change all that stuff to black.

I updated my belt molding as well on my 16 limited. I also swapped bumpers to remove the chrome

I just went the chrome delete option. All that's left is what you mentioned and I'm planning to plastidip it soon.

What is belt molding? You talking about the stuff below the doors that’s above the rockers? I’d like to remove mine for painting vs. Doing it on the truck.
But unsure how that moulding actually removes

The belt mounding is the thin strip of chrome trim on the outside on the door. As if you roll the window down all the way and it meets the door. As for the chrome on the rocker panels, you have to remove them. They are bolted on and the chrome is clipped on from behind. Rather easy to do.

Ah! Did you go with OEM mouldings on the type on Amazon?

And for the lower chrome pieces below so your saying rocker panel has to come off to remove the chrome strip?

When I replaced my mouldings, I found a dealership the was running a sale with free shipping. It was a few months back though. Just make sure they are oem. As for rockers, yes. You have to unbolt them and you will see there are locking clips to remove the tabs for the trim. If you were to plastidip or vinyl wrap, you can do it attached.

Do you have a list of parts for the non limited rocker parts? Curious what it would cost to replace the limited ones to the SR5 style. Do they come color matched?
