I'm thinking about getting the ceramic coating... I don't know much about it..I won't be off roading in it...just normal driving

I see diffeent packages with diffrent warranties..

What is the warranty for? How would it fail...peeling, bubbles?

How can you tell when it's time to put on another coat?

I didn't even know it existed til this week. Thanks!

A warranty usually just go along with what they sell. Some are 1 year coatings, 3, 5, etc.

The cost wears off like any wax and you’ll notice water doesn’t bead off the paint.

not worth it in my opinion.

Wash it, wax it (a few times a year), and drive it. Keep the overpriced ceramic job money in your pocket or use it on beneficial modifications.

I have ceramic coating with a 10 year warranty, they claybar and re apply a maintainer coat yearly. I don’t have to ever wax my vehicle and washing my vehicle is easy as I can use 3m dry wash. Takes 15 mins to clean my entire vehicle.

bird poop, sap and other contaminates come off very easily.

I paid 1400 and I find it well worth it. When I factor in time and money saved without having to wax 2-4 times a year.

warranty covers paint and the coating itself.

Not a bad price with the warranty and re applications. I use rejex polymer and get a similar result with things coming off easily. Granted I have to re apply a few times a year.

I had my black 2022 Chevy Silverado done for @$2k before considering my 2021 Silver TRD Off-road.
Like you, I researched quite a bit, saw mixed reviews but thought being in New England, with the snow, salt, road grime that I could just hose the truck and it would look nice again. Not so.
You still have to hand wash the vehicle, same as if waxed.
I had “no extra” shine or difference that was visible.
Will not be coating the 4Runner, but staying with hand waxing.
Bottom line, my opinion is it’s not worth it.
Mine was “professionally” done at a shop that performs this coating.

When you do ceramic coat you can't wash? I mean can't go to automatic car wash? Sorry if I misunderstood what you said..

I'm skeptical. I got it as part of some exterior protection package. When I bought my 4R, that in hindsight I realized I was totally scammed on.

I don't know if it actually did anything. I don't think so, because when I bought a $9 spray bottle of Turtle Wax ceramic, it was like night and day. I love that stuff, I swear by it. Project Farm even did a comparison of the spray ceramic coatings, and it came out on top.

I took this photo earlier this week, and the last time I applied the Turtle Wax was probably late September of 2021.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Project Farm is awesome!

We're going to test that! Lol

Seriously, whenever I'm going to buy a tool or something, I look to see if there's a PF test of it. I actually bought some DeWalt drill bits that he rated highly, they did an awesome job drilling out my broken skid plate bolts.

Yeah I researched a lot with mixed reviews. I have always been old school and applied hand wax to my cars. I am going to Xpel film the front end and hood to avoid rock chips and plan to hand wax the rest like usual. There is something relaxing for me about spending a few hours in the garage detailing it and waxing and then cracking a cold beer. Some day I am sure my body will stop me from hand washing my cars and waxing so I may as well do it while I can. It beats working at this damn pc all day.

I'm 48 and have never waxed a car once..so doubt I'm going to start..a friend of mine has his coated yesterday.. the guy has just retired from somewhere and is only charging 850..I'm guessing to get clientele....

So question...can someone mess this coating up? ..or mess up your original paint...

Sorry I have no clue about this stuff....what I mean is..is their a risk when u get it done?

The coating is applied in layers and a lot of prep work goes into it. I imagine it can be applied to where it won’t last. And anyone can mess up the paint if they don’t know what their doing.

You can use water to wash it however I use 3m dry wash.

If you go thru a brushed car wash it will damage the coating.

However going thru a drive thru car wash with brushes damages your paint in general. Swirls, scratches etc.

Jennifer there are some very easy waxes to apply if you wanted to do yourself a few times per year. I did my 4Runner in two hours with a wax below. Just wash your vehicle by hand and park in a garage or shaded area. I would just avoid black trim.

I am not a fan of car washes places due to scratches. It’s super easy and I have been using waxes of all types for years.

I don’t think any product is going to last a year especially if it’s your daily driver.

I used Adam’s graphene coating about a year ago on mine. The process took a long time-wash,clay bar, wash again, light compound, wash again and then apply and remove the haze the next day, rinse and done. Water beads and rolls off quickly,I use a soap gun and rinse when I wash now. Looks like a fresh wax job every time I wash it. It was a lot of work but I think it was worth it, haven’t used a wash brush or mitt yet and hard water doesn’t leave spots.half way through the process i was second guessing myself due to the time and effort but figured I had to do all the work on the front end before sealing it. As far as having it done Vs doing yourself? I chose doing it myself and am convinced my work is better.

I got more than a few pin-stripes due to taking my 4runner out on tight trails, but I still refuse to go through a brushed car wash. No-touch all the way! Although I admit I do those mostly for the underbody spray.

I handwashed it this year and decided to use some turtle wax ceramic spay-and-dry stuff on it. Looks good, cant say how ling it will last though. I didnt do any prep work though, even though I probably should clay bar it.

I figured I’d wax it this year to see if it minimizes additional pinstripes.
