I have a long and wild history with Landcruisers. I've owned a '67 FJ-40 (highly modified), an early '79 pick up, a '83 FJ-60 that taken me to hell and back many times and a '94 FJ-80 that was a nice ride. All have been sold and replaced with a 2012 4Runner Trail which I hardly use now that I live around Chicago. I never thought I'll miss beating myself up working on them but I do. I need to get back to a residential home with enough room to stretch out and safe enough to leave everything unlocked and open like I did in Oklahoma. I also need to get closer to the mountains and high desert so I can camp and do some off roading. No plans to build my 4Runner (once you start there's no end to it) but that could change.

I found this forum while searching for drain construction (exactly like the FJ-80) to clear the drain blockage and immediately got caught up in misc. discussions. Toyotas 4WDs are like any addiction, you can get and stay clean but all it takes is one slip and you're hooked again and I just slipped hard. See you all on the trails. Cheers - Greg (Rocks(in my head))

Thanks for the friendly welcome folks! After leaving my job of 35 years, finishing a divorce and a few other family matters my lady friend and I checked out different places but since we both have some roots in the northern suburbs (I did some high school in Highland Park back in the early '70s and she has family in the area) we thought we'll give Chicago a shot. It was a fun change at first but now it's more of a pain in the ass. Where abouts do you guys (or ladies) live?

I'm here to stay in Western North Carolina. Still have an old friend in the Chicago area, ( Elmhurst ) where I went to HS. Class of 73. Liked Chicago, as big cities go, but much has changed since then. Some good and some bad.
ALWAYS hated the winters though! Never would return to that cold brutality.
Corporate job transferred me outa there. Still pull for Da-Bears though.:D

    Welcome from Maryland :hattip:

In the country part of north central MD- an hour north of Baltimore- which unfortunately has a surpassed Chicago in the shooting death rate - I’m a country boy and try to stay clear of the city as much as possible

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
    Welcome aboard!
    Good to have ya.

I was born and raised in a place that looked a lot the Forest Moon of Endor. Where the Ewoks live. Woodside, Ca. in the San Francisco Bay Area. Never been in a more beautiful place. I can't afford to live anywhere near there, now, though. 1/4 acre, no access, no services, nothing, $1 MILLION!!! Sadly, I can't even afford to dream about it any more.
I got stationed in Yuma, Az, the desert, where California, Arizona, and Mexico all meet. I could throw a rock north and hit California, North-east and hit Mexico from my house. LOTS of off-roading all around Yuma, but I hated the place. Dry, heck, dessicated, hotter than heck all the time, dusty, all the plants and animals are either poisonous, have spines, attack, or a combination of the three. Yes, even the plants. Look up "Cholla", pronounced "choiya", cactus sometime. They attack. Seriously! Only reason the Corps put an air station there was that it very seldom rains. 360 flying days a year. 3" of rain in a wet year, often all at once. Miserable place. Heck, the guys that work out on the flight line have to wear thick gloves, or it's second degree burns on their hands when they touch anything out there.
I left when the crime got so bad I had to wear a sidearm, at least, to step out my front door on my 2 1/2 acre property. Thankfully, I've had to draw it, but never had to fire it. At a human, anyway. My neighbors fighting dogs, are another story.
I moved to the Klamath Falls area of Oregon, and figure I'll be here till I die. At least here, 60% of the population are fellow vets. Quiet, easy-going place.

    Have fun, wherever you go...
    Pat☺
