I just picked up a 5th gen 4Runner with stock head unit. It's a 2014 SR5 Premium. Is there any way to add CarPlay to this unit or is my only option to go with an aftermarket head unit built with CarPlay?

I would swap in a stock unit from a new model with the adapter harness if you want the stock look. Needs to not be a JBL.

Welcome.yes it can be added. But much less expensive to get a new headunit.

Thanks all. Any suggetions of an aftermarket ApplePlay-equipped head unit that fits with a clean look for this model?

If the above two ideas don’t interest you, go look at what’s available on Crutchfield.com

    Limited or SR5?
Crutchfield is great for all things car audio and YouTube is great for installation guidance. Using those two resources I upgraded my Tacoma by keeping the head unit and installing all new speakers, DSP amp and subwoofer. Sounds better than a Limited system and saved money by installing it all myself.
