The button on the shifter used with your thumb is pressed to move the shifter from Park into another gear.

The plastic extension on the shifter broke of the button. This extension is used to press some sort of latch that releases the gear shift.

The shift lever is attached by two screws, however, the Overdrive button on the side is wired to a harness under the console. The wires connected to the Overdrive button cannot seem to be disconnected. As a result, the shifter cannot be removed easily, or without disconnecting the wires under the console.

There are four pieces (see schematic): The button, the sleeve, the spring, and the pin.

Questions: How are the four parts replaced? Does the pin go through a hole in the extension on the button? Does the shifter need to be removed?

I spoke with a 24 year veteran Toyota mechanic and he did not know.

Pretty sure you're going to have to figure this out by getting the console out of your way.
