Brand New 5th Gen Clunk

Hey guys,

Bought a brand new fifth gen ORP w/ KDSS a few months back. Love the truck! However, when I first begin driving the car and go over my first bump (over a slightly raised sidewalk past my driveway) I feel and hear a distinct clunk underneath me. This is strange cause if I drive over it again, it won’t make the clunk. I can drive over it over and over after that point and it’ll rarely do it.

I get the same thing at times if I make a sudden k-turn, when I cut the wheels and reverse after a forward acceleration. Again, it doesn’t do it every time, usually only once and then not again if I try to repeat the same action soon after. Sometimes it’ll also do it during a very hard brake. Truck has been doing it since new and still only has 5k miles. Dealer says can’t replicate.

Both driveshafts are properly greased at all zerk fittings. I can feel the clunk underneath me in the driver seat and slightly through the steering wheel.

Any thoughts??

You could start with checking your skid plates and see if they are properly tight. Bang on them with your hand to see if it makes the same noise you hear.
LCA bolts, sway bar links, basically cross check to see the suspension components are torqued to spec.

 

It sounds like your rear driveshaft is binding. Only suggestion I have is to get under there with a creeper and a flashlight and have a good look around. Look for any wear marks on metal, grab things and make sure they're tight. Are you still under factory warranty? Keep pressuring the dealer to figure it out.
