The only aftermarket exhaust I've heard in person on 5th gen 4Runner is MBRP. Like it enough that I got one too. It is loud. Last year I found it direct from MBRP with a coupon code that put it under $300 US. If you are in Canada, not sure what options or deals you might find.

The V6 is a thrashy sounding engine. Adding aftermarket exhaust just makes it sound more like a ups truck.

BA Mufflers aka Dirty Deedz Industries. Put one on my V6 4runner back when, have one on my V8 now. Sounds loud and grumbly in the best ways.

Flowmaster Super Series 10 Muffler. One of the loudest mufflers you can get. Had it on my Tacoma and absolutely loved it. Absolute head turner. Currently running the Flowmaster Series 50 Muffler with 2 1/2 straight pipe with 3 inch exhaust tip. Definitely not as loud as my Tacoma, but still aggressive. But like your post states "a lot more louder and meaner" definitely the Series 10 will do the job.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'll check out Flowmasters aswell like stunner recommended.

MBRP is also on the considerations, but Ive read the quality may lack as far as rusting.

I don't know about any of these 3 but I can say stock TRD Pro exhaust is annoying for highway driving. May be think twice before looking for loud exhausts.:D

Yes Ive heard this from a lot from ppl on here and other forums. But I guess it all subjective. Hopefully a local dealer has one on the lot so I can hear for myself.

You can save yourself some money by cutting your muffler off, and install the one of your choice. This is mine, Flowmaster 40 i think it was $300.00 installed. I like it.

This is a very loud and industrial sounding engines already. I don’t see a good reason to make it louder.

I'm with you. OTOH we would have to look at the at the age of forum members posting. I imagine most that are wanting an aftermarket exhaust are under 30 years old. I know when I was younger it was all about the growl.

I recently went to a muffler shop to replace my aftermarket cat-back I installed that was cracked (Magna Flow I think). I thought it was a quiet one. The owner of the shop and I chewed the fat for a while reminiscing of days past desert racing, riding, and performance. He asked me if I wanted young muffler or old man muffler. I had to laugh and told him I wanted the quietest one he could find.

I waited a few days for a special ordered quiet muffler and it was worth the wait. My 4.3 liter V6 is as quiet as a Cadillac!

For a pure performance standpoint that one can't be beat. But boy it sure is loud!! For longevity Flowmaster, Borla, and Gibson are all outstanding brands and will last many miles. I have never heard of the aFe brand?

I'll be 40 this year but wife says I still act like 21 Bahahaha.

Great tip SlverSlug, on just using adding a muffler. Im leaning towards those 3 Flowmaster, Borla, and Gibson. I never heard of aFe also, I just noticed it at my local shop.

Wouldn't recommend the Gibson. I had it on for about a month and ended up removing it. Loved the look, but the sound was pretty uninspired. Also very loud in the passenger seat (wife was not a fan). I am, however looking at reinstalling the tips for the aesthetics.

I will have to go with Borla, I don't have any experience with the other options.

The cheapest MBRP is not stainless. Hence being lowest priced. So yes, corrosion may become an issue. They have a stainless version still not too bad on price.

I had a flowmaster 50 series on Tacoma 4.0 that sounded good. Was subtle though compared to 40 or super44 muffler.

If you want a throaty sound, consider Borla.

I just installed the MBRP black on my 2021, it wasn't too bad until I put the TRD cold air kit on it. Now I hate it. Too loud and in a bad way, sounds real tinny at higher RPMs. I like the black tail pipe though. I am either going to stick my stock exhaust back on, or take it to a shop and have them weld a different muffler on it. Screenshot_20210926-120324_eBay.jpg 20210921_190829.jpg

This is what I did. I first had them put on a 16" Magnaflow.....way too loud for me. They then put on a 24" Magnaflow...perfect, and it was pretty reasonable...around $150 installed IIRC.

I put the Borla touring on my 21 limited, compared to dual Magnaflow’s on a previous RS/SS I like the sound.I have the S&B CAI and Pedal Commander , while none of these installs are magic they sure make me feel good. looked at the others and read reviews ,went with borla.

Still liking my Borla touring- it is def louder and many don’t like that. I do like that though. I remember being shocked at how much heavier the stock one was once I compared them.

I just put the Afe. I might be the first one doing it here because I haven't seen any reviews or experience with it. I don't know too much about how to detect the drone thing, but it does have a weird thing around 40mph to 50mph. I went from a stock exhaust and onto this, I have a TRD pro exhaust on a tacoma - which I am used to but this is different. Not sure if I am going to like this or regret it. Pictures coming soon.

    Folks,
Don't waste your time and money with the AfE Exhaust system. I learned my lesson by screwing with something with no reviews or experience out there. I was looking for something different than the TRD Exhaust we have on the Taco, didn't like the Borla or Gibson sounds, so I venture on this AfE thing. WRONG CHOICE. I ended up putting a resonator on it because I hated it the high pitch around 50mph - it has helped some. But this thing isn't worth it, so stick with the big boys like Gibson or Borla - they know how to do this stuff.

what kind of resonator did they put on?
I had the borla s-type and I loved the sound but my wife hated it on long trips so I took it off.
I took it to a muffler shop but advised against adding a resonator as it'll change the sound and he didnt want me to waste money without knowing the outcome.
I miss the pep it gave me when I had the catback on :(
