So are you all recommending Michelin Defenders? Ha!

    Thanks all for the help!

Of course, any not-cheap all-season will do and the Defenders are generally not good at being inexpensive so if you find a flaming deal from another reputable brand don't let us stop you!

I think Defenders is the way to go. It’s the best find for highway miles. Indeed a bit more expensive than other brands but I think they ll be worth it.

I checked out Costco but I actually found better pricing at Discount Tires. Most of the reviews for Discount Tires speak well of them... we shall see.

I have had the Falken Wild peaks HT for over a year and are solid tires. They look and are more aggressive that the OEM tires. I drive in the snow and around on the farm and I have no complaints. I know, I know, it's a mall crawler : )

At 5k miles, I took off the stock Yokohamas and replaced them with 5 Defender LTX M/S2 tires on my 24 Limited. Awesome tires on the Limited.

I had a 2005 Sequoia that had the OEM Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s and loved them for comfort, quiet and good wet traction. BTW, wish I never sold it...it was before I knew how legendary the 4.7 v8 was. Guy I sold it to still has it with over 250k on it. Was happy to see the 4R came with them. Why don't I see any love of these tires from anybody? Other than being soft and low tread life, what am I missing? Are they considered bad tires by you folks?

I would have run them to the end of their tread life had one not gotten an unrepairable hole early on. It didn't make sense to replace that one with a new Dunlop when I got a fairly good trade in on the other 4 towards a set of Falken tires for not much more out of pocket.

For this use I'd consider it especially since newer takeoffs might be around for cheap.

They're pretty bad in snow and slippery conditions. Maybe it's a low temperature thing and the rubber stiffens up- not sure.

Thanks, but I'll be running snows in winter. However, MY GOD, I just priced out the Dunlops because I'll need sometime this year...$372/tire on Tire Rack...ouch!

I don't understand, it costs more than a bunch of E load Michelins, etc.

This Grandtrek gets horrid reviews. Especially in snow, but really in every category but comfort -- where they're just decent. In my experience, prices are often higher for OEM spec even when the tire sucks. As it often does due to OEM cost cutting. My theory is the market bears a higher price for OEM because of all the people who don't know any better -- who think they have to stick with what their car came with.

I've had a lot of new cars and the only ones that came with top tier tires were two high-performance cars that came stock with summers. One was the epic Michelin Pilot Super Sport (no longer made) and the other, my latest car, with the also excellent Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Every other car either came with average tires or crap tires. My 4R had the latter. They scored like these Grandtreks and were downright dangerous in snow.

Yes, I've seen the ratings...guess I've just had a different experience with them. And let me somewhat embarrassingly say that my 4R is a pavement princess, I don't offroad. I consider myself a tire snob and know what I like which is quiet comfort above most everything else. Which I guess can sound crazy that it's not safety in all conditions, but it could be the safest tire in the world but if it has any rotational hum or excessive noise, I can't take it. The Grandtreks have always been quiet and comfortable and, I found, very capable in wet conditions. I once tried a different, higher rated tire on my 2005 sequoia and a couple times I tried to pull into traffic in the rain and the tires just spun in place and I almost crapped myself with oncoming traffic. Went right back to the Grandtreks. I use a set of dedicated snows in winter, so snow isn't my concern. I deal with the noise from the snows but can't wait for March to arrive so I can take them off. And, albeit minor, I like the tread design and sidewall of the Grandtreks. The low tread life is my only complaint. Thanks for the info, I never took into consideration that they would overprice tires just because they are considered "OEM". Not surprising, I guess.

I'm going to take a serious look at the higher rated tires and the recommendations I find on this forum. Also, I'm looking to go to a 275 or 285 width, while adjusting the sidewall height as to not effect the speedo reading by more the 1 MPH or so. Any opinions on that? I'm going to do some searching.

When I changed out at 900 miles all 5 of my Dunlops on my 2024 I couldn’t even give them away . They went into a tire recycling dumpster.
