It shames to say but I’d like recommendations for the best (and relatively cost-effective) tires for my 2018 4Runner that will only be driven on the highway or paved roads for the foreseeable future. Thanks in advance for the recommendations (and jokes).

Any all-season ought to cut it. Just up to you to decide what compromise, price you want. At those requirements I'd see what's on promotion at Costco, Tire Rack, etc.

Fan of the Defender LTX M/S but it may be a bit much since I did get it with some off-pavement use in mind.

Use the tire decision guide at Tire Rack to help you decide. Then shop for best price from there. Good luck.

Michelin LTX MS2. Long life, even wear, quite, great wet and dry grip. Have 40k miles on them. You might see a loss in mpg due to stiffer sidewalls.

Do you want them to look good?
Do you want them to ride good?
Are you wanting the best fuel mileage?

For looks and wear i go with the General Grabber AT/x in Load Range E
These ride freaking great and last forever. You will get years and years out of them.

For fuel mileage the Michelin Defenders or Bridgestone Dueler H/T wear great, ride good, and get great fuel mileage.

Michelin defenders. Very good snow traction for a street tire and nearly impossible to hydroplane.

I was gunna say, @bg01 recommend Michelins even if it’s just highway. They have less negative reviews than even mickey thompson, or geolanders

Ran Strictly Michelin LTs on my old 3rd Gen. Those tires performed very well in wet/dry/snow/ice/sand and off-road. Mud was a slight issue but then again I had no business going through some deep bogs.

One set lasted over 100K miles making it most likely the most cost effective SUV tire out there.

Another push towards Michelins from Costco.
I don't remember how many miles we got out of them but, it was a time when I was driving from MT to SoCal every other month for almost 3 years. The weather didn't matter to them as I drove during the hot months to sub-zero temps in the winter. All while dragging a 6x10 enclosed trailer.

I had these on a previous 4x4 I owned and they were excellent for what you’re looking for in a tire. MICHELIN Defender LTX M/S

We recently got Michelin Defender 2s from Costco for my wife’s 2023 RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid AWD. Very happy with the Michelins on that RAV4.

Order from tire rack, get them overnight. Michelin defender! Good siping, excellent traction and if you rotate - you’ll get 80-100k. Quality tire for a price though. It’s worth it

Agreed. I had them (P-rated) before the current Toyos and they were super duper in the wet and rain.

The original Duelers that came new on my 2019 lasted 92,000 miles. I never could find a fault with them.

Michelin Defenders are excellent tires. I am also a big fan of Michelin Primacy tires, but I think 4Runner is too heavy for these.

If you regularly drive in the snow, you ought to get Michelin X-Ice snow tires. That what I have on right now.

We don't regularly but we're down a 1/2mile gravel driveway that gets bad when we get snow. If the Michelin Defenders won't make it out it's time to plow.

Another vote for Michelin Defenders. Got mine at Costco. Not sure there's ever been a better all-rounder than this. Tires are one of the most impactful decisions we make with our cars. The OEM Duelers were atrocious. Honestly dangerous in snow. It matters.

PS -- I got one for the full size spare as well. So I can do a 5-wheel rotation to extend tread life even farther. Plus, even tread wear means you're not upsetting the 4WD system if you have to use the spare.

We've run deulers on a couple different vehicles and have been happy with them. Michelin are better for 100% street driving through.

Some Dueler models look good, especially the A/T Ascent. I'm talking about the H/T version that came stock. Specifically I think it was the H/T D687. The reviews are horrendous and rightly so.

I've got revo3s on my 4runner and we have H/Ts on the pilot. Been happy with both.
