You don't live in AZ or Texas I'll bet. With that being said, it's time to start researching your next battery!

The Panasonic batteries do last a long time, longer than any others I have heard of...BUT most of them do go bad around the same age as yours, some last a little bit longer but not many, unfortunately you can't get another Panasonic battery or any other brand that will last as long to replace it with here in the USA.

I don’t care what the battery test says . At the 3 year mark I replace it.

Seriously? I guess I just assumed I could have at the very least got the same battery through a Toyota dealer.

No the Panasonic battery only comes with vehicles straight from Japan, if you go to Asia you can still get one but not here in the USA or Canada, Toyota USA only sells "Toyota" True Start batteries.

There is definitely something to that. My area sees some 105-110 degree days in the summer but I park mine in the garage. After 3 years they still start fine even if they sit for a few months at a time.

My factory Panasonic in my 13 lasted 8 years between AL and NC. Best factory battery around, totally crushed the longevity of the one in my wife’s Outback.

I have had two new previous factory Panasonic batteries. They both lasted 7 years and gave no warning or low test readings prior to failure. They are great. I replaced the factory battery in my 2019 proactively at 6 years based on that experience. It gave me no problems and tested 90% at retirement.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 36 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 36yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The pair of Mopar batteries in my then new 2004 diesel made it to 10yrs….the second set of Costco/Interstates made it to 8yrs(moved to colder climate?). Just 4yrs into the 3rd set w/Costco/Interstates now.

Replaced my '21's (built mid-2020) early last winter and while there was plenty of life, there was a stark difference in cranking with the fresh battery.

The factory installed battery in my 2006 Toyota Tundra lasted me 9+ years. It failed slowly (began cranking slowly / gave me a warning of its pending failure.) So I was able to replace it at home without it stranding me out away from home anywhere.

My 2022 4Runner is still on its original factory battery and so far so good.

I still have my OEM Panasonic from my '04 bought in '03 and it still holds a 75% charge. I keep it on a timed charger for 15 minutes a day. Long ago I asked the parts department if I could get one and the guy said "wish we could". I always get the Toyota TruStart 84 month battery now. I just got a new one in Dec 24, the 3rd one for this 22 YO 4Runner; not bad.

Mine only lasted 3 years and some change on the factory battery (tested bad on my last service about a month and a half ago) and replaced it with the Toyota TrueStart like pictured above. The factory battery in my old Silverado lasted 6 years before it bit the dust so I was expecting longer out of this one but oh well. Southeast Alabama heat/humidity isn't too nice on them.

My 2019 OEM Panasonic battery showed signs of weakness in 2025 and replaced with a Walmart Battery. My 2019 has stock electrical system except LED low beams and highbeams.

My 2021 OEM Panasonic battery showed signs of weakness in 2025 and replaced with a Walmart Battery. 2021 has parking mode on dash camera. Also has aftermarket lightbars, spot lights, gmrs radio. I think parking mode might be a reason and cut off was set to 11.9v. (I no more have parking mode after downgrading to Fitcam dash cam).

Have ya’ll noticed that battery warrantees are a great deal shorter than in the past. Why? Because the electronics in new vehicles are sensitive to voltage variations. I usually replace batteries at or around 3 years. Dirty power kills sensors…

My Panasonic from my 19 only lasted 4 years. Probably could have pushed it but that's never a good idea.

I made a New Year's resolution to not weigh in on another Panasonic battery life thread but oh well. To counter what one YouTube influmechanic claimed, I disagree that Toyota replacement batteries are just generic batteries with slapped-on Toyota stickers. For whatever reason, they last.

Toyota brand batteries were once made by Interstate or Exide but that's changed over the years and battery companies are bought and sold. Toyota has it's own battery plant in North Carolina and they also bought another battery company and renamed it. Things change over the years but I've found that if you maintain your lead acid battery it will last a long time. You have to get rid of corrosion on the battery and the battery hold downs. You have to keep the plates covered and if they ever become uncovered then you've reduced the life of that battery. The number of amps drained from the battery need to be replaced by the alternator and with the new cars shutting off the engine at stop lights I'm sure that has a strong impact on battery life. The old rule used to be you had to drive 6 miles after you started your engine to replace the energy used.

I like the 84 month TruStart because Toyota does honor the warranty. I don't recall the specifics but if it fails in the first x number of years you get a free replacement. If it's longer than that they prorate the usage and discount the new battery.

My wife drives a 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid AWD. Currently at 27,XXX miles.

A couple weeks ago, the original factory battery went bad in her car. (NOT the Hybrid battery.)

I took the car in to our Toyota dealer. They checked everything out and said the battery itself just went bad. They installed a new battery at no cost to us. Back in business.

But I’m kinda disappointed that the original battery lasted not even three years. On a positive note, we got a fresh new battery out of the deal while still under the remaining normal warranty.

Went through the test. I start to worry about the battery life now. It is a 22 ORP with low mileage (18K). It is mostly local. Does that hurt the battery? If from now on, I start to periodically recharge the battery will it restore the battery ?

It takes 20-30 minutes of driving to recharge your battery. If regularly left undercharged, it’ll sulfate and will not fully recharge again unless, perhaps, you put it on a charger with a recondition mode.

You can try using a battery maintainer. I like the CTEK 7002. It’s a 7V charger and you can leave it plugged in 24/7. CTEK chargers also come with dedicated leads that connect to the battery terminals so they’re very convenient to use.

Thanks for your great advice. I saw some 7002 is 12v. Should I use 12v or 7v?

I just go to the dealer and test drive new Toyotas and steal the factory battery out of the 26s and replace it in my 4Runner that’s parked at the gas station down the streeet
