We originally bought this as the missus' grocery getter, but pretty quickly it took the place of the Tundra as the family traveler. I have since sold the Tundra, my wife drives the v6 Avalon XLE Touring, and I drive this on the weekends and for adventures.

When we purchased the 4runner we had no expectation of using it for overlanding/offroading, which we do very frequently now. I would have purchased the TRD ORp had I known what it would turn in to. Still, it's an extremely capable vehicle and I haven't had a need for rear lockers even in some pretty crazy situations. We have done 4-5 day long trips where we travel 800 miles all on dirt roads and we love every second of it. This vehicle has changed the way I camp, and the way I want to camp. This is by far my favoritve vehicle I have ever owned, and I usually get a new car every 2 years. =D

A few weeks ago I installed my Dobinson's suspension. It rides like a dream both on and off road! Highly recommended.

My rear is exactly level but I have about a 1/2" lean favoring the driver side up front. Ordered Toytec 1/4" shim to compensate.

Did you choose to go with the spacers for a better stance look or was it a necessity? I just recently picked up these same wheels and same exact tire (size and all). I was just wondering if I needed spacers.

The spacers were a preference and were not required.

So no rubbing with the bigger tire? How did mpg suffer?

    Thank you EB

Sorry I didn't respond sooner - somehow missed this. I did get slight rubbing because of the offset (effectively -20mm). This was resolved by removing the front spats and slightly trimming the front bumper just in front of the wheel wells, then reshaping the fender liner with a heat gun. You can't tell any of this has been done unless your head is under the truck.

Are those 275 KO2's in all your pics? The size looks great on your rig. I've been debating the 285's because anything smaller seems to look... well... small, but yours look really good. Any reason you went 275 vs. 285? Also assuming they are E rated since I can't find a C rated KO2 in 275. Oh, and thanks for the info on the springs in another thread. I'm thinking of doing pretty much the same bumper you've got so will do the heavier springs in preparation for that.

Yup, 275s in an E load range! The reason they look so good is because my wheel offset is effectively -19.75mm.. Bringing the wheel out from under the vehicle makes it look bigger.

Thanks! I think I'm going to go with the 275's as well. Lots of internal debate on 285's, but I think the 275's will result in less modifications, trimming, etc. they also don't look quite as "hard core" as the 285's, which I like. You look like you do enough serious off-roading and doesn't seem like the 275's are holding you back.

    The same 4Runner everyone has
275/70 will also result in a perfectly calibrated speedometer (stock reads fast). The 285/70 tires are only a half inch taller. It's a lot more potential headache for what amounts to only a quarter-inch increase in ground clearance.

Does your "full size spare in factory location" have the 275 tire and same Rhino rim?

BTW, Red is Rad. Don't to the olive drab wrap ;)

Yup, full size spare on the same wheel in the OEM location. I will eventually get a rear bumper with a swing out tire mount, but for now the factory location works perfectly.

That's nice! Why do you want another? Getting rid of the 4? I had a 2008 crewmax. The power of that sweet 5.7 was so fun. I often think about getting another and even test drove one before pulling the trigger on 4, but I have no regrets.

I am going to wait and see what Toyota does with the new Tundra.

Naw.. I'll keep the 4runner but I miss having a full size truck. I might wait until the next generation of Tundra but with the way toyota goes 10 years before major changes I might not last that long..

I know what you mean. Not sure whether to wait for something better or go with what you know. For the price of the Tundra now and given how old the design is, I was even looking at Ram 2500's with the Cummins for about the same money. See Dennis Dillon Ram. The current Tundra seriously needs an upgrade. I just hope Toyota doesn't screw it up.

Dodge has really nice interiors and features.. I had a 1500 as a rental last week. I just don't think they are as long lasting or reliable as the Tundra, but that's just my opinion based on anecdotal evidence. I do like the newest model's body style and they are fun to drive with lots of fun gadgets to keep me from focusing on driving! ;)
