Just purchased a 2016 4Runner yesterday. Later yesterday evening I noticed the infotainment buttons, climate control buttons and any the letters on the shifter on the center console were not back lit. The instrument panel was lit up, as was the touchscreen. Adjusting the brightness wheel to the left of the steering wheel only changed the brightness of the instrument panel. Checked the fuses and couldn’t find anything wrong. Any idea what is going on?

Could be loose connections or bad bulbs. Take it apart and check.

Which fuses have you checked? Also, check if your tail lights are working.

    Turn headlights on.

Then adjust intensity of backlighting with knob.

Only the instrument panel backlighting comes on without your headlights being on, the other stuff is controlled by the headlight circuit.
