I took a ride the other day in another guy’s 5th gen 4Runner. It was a 2023 model. There were 4 of us, including the owner-driver.

This guy’s 4Runner had the third row seating option. Me and one other guy sat in the back (MIDDLE) seat. Our leg room in that thing sucked the big kahuna. We both actually had to sit a bit sideways to fit.

I’m glad I don’t have third row seating on my 2022. I don’t know how anyone can put up with that set up.

Why are you riding in the back seat of so many other people’s 4Runners?

The second row slides in three row models so I bet they were moved up from prior use.

2/2 Edit: Or maybe that guy hates you!

You know. I envy Rick. I really do. His problems are simple: Backseat leg room issues and people putting notes on his truck when he goes to the grocery store.

Me? I have this problem when I drive places:

But without third row seating how will you give all the poor women and their children with excessively loud pickup trucks rides home?

I guess not having third row seating does free up your cargo area to store all the stupid fucking threads you start though.

Owning both a 2 and 3 row fifth gen, the second row legroom is the same unless the second row seats are slid forward on the 3 row model.

Well, maybe that was the problem then. I didn’t realize the second row seats could be slid back further like that on a third row seating T4R.

The other person and I had to sit twisted sideways a bit to fit back there. There was nobody using the back third row seat. Gee that sure was nice (sarcasm) of the owner to mention we could slide the seat back for more leg room.

If I owned a third row option, I’d be sure to mention that to any guests sitting back there in the second row so they wouldn’t have to suffer sitting sideways.

    Thanks for the tip Kezin.

Could you share your thoughts on what the best oil is for the 5th gen 4Runner?

Maybe the owner slid the seat up on purpose so you will drive yourself next time?

??? What the hell’s bells does oil have to do with this topic?

But if you must know, my personal choice for oil(s) are either Valvoline, or Costco - Kirkland. I’ll use Valvoline when I can catch it on sale. I always use TOYOTA filters bought direct from my local TOYOTA dealer parts dept.

I don’t believe in that 10,000 mile oil change interval bull shit. I change my oil and filter either every 6 months or 5,000 miles whichever comes first.

In retirement, I’m not putting many miles on my 4Runner by having to drive to work daily, so I’m typically finding myself changing oil by time - every 6 months.

From a pedantic grammar standpoint, the word in brackets modifies the previous adjective.
So, I'm assuming both dudes were sitting together in the middle of the back seat.

    Definitely funnier that way.

I will categorically deny your claim the leg room 'sucks'. My 3 row Limited, with both front seats pushed all the way back and slightly tilted back, 2nd row, slid all the way back, leaves me 2-3" from my knees to the seat back. FWIW I am 6'3". Totally comfortable and more leg room than most vehicles I have ridden in.

I'm surprised you don't use 5w-30. You're probably destroying your motor with that water-based CAFE mandated 0w-20.

Hey, what are the best tires for the 4Runner? Will I rub with 285's?
