    Hello everyone!

I bought a AVS wind deflector and noticed that it hits and touches the grille when closing the hood. Is this normal and would I have issues down the road? Can someone provide with pictures of their AVS touching the grille and see if paint is rubbing off?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

FYI, I had the same thing happen when I put an AVS bug guard on several years ago. I knew it was going to rub paint off. It stayed on for maybe 15 minutes, then got removed and sold. I didn't replace it with any other brand, as I figured, maybe incorrectly, they would all do the same thing.

I've heard several members say you can adjust the hood bumpers up a bit to prevent the bug guard from making contact with the grille, but I think that would make the gap between the hood and the grille be larger, which didn't seem like a good idea to me. I just gave up on using one.

There's a little black rubber knob on each side near the headlights. You can unscrew them a little to raise the position of the closed hood. Unscrew a quarter to half turn and check it by closing the hood. Repeat until you get it where you want it.

AVS company should include in their instructions to do this process (rubber bumper adjustment) before installation:(

I believe the grill part that gets rubbed is plastic. So it's not going to rust if paint gets rubbed. But you should be able to adjust it so it doesn't rub.

    They do?

Beware if you adjust the bumpers too high, you will need to loosen the hood latch bolts and move it up slightly as well.

This is the AVS-branded instruction sheet I downloaded when I bought mine in December. Same gulag, different brand.

Ditch it and get Xpel ppf. I got one and thankfully never drove with it.

I have considered PPF before and this is what my local professional PPF installer stated - PPF is not good for a long period of time/years. The adhesive from the PPF will eat up the clear coat (what they call it a “lift line” after removal) with the constant exposure to the sun, cold, rain etc. It will eventually turn yellowish and crack, is not a forever product. Depending on how much the vehicle is exposed to the elements, it may be best to replace PPF within 2-3years to avoid this issues.

I think that might be true with old ppf technology and 3m from what I’ve ready anyway.

I was told it can last up to 10 years and then replace with normal use. My 4R is going to be unique and a garage queen and only driven maybe 1k per year for recreation so I am not a good example.

My dealer which does high end cars like Ferraris and Lambos and such suggested I plan on replacing mine regardless around the 10 year mark. My front end and full hood and mirrors were about $2k.

From what I read the yellowing and glue issues were with earlier versions of film. I cannot attest to the long term but I took the risk. I knew the cheap is not as good these days knew about these avs style hood protectors from my old Explorer.

If all these vehicles did not have such cheap paint due to epa bs rules we would not be faced with this.
