Hey guys! I have a 2024 TRD Pro and when I use the automatic setting on the HVAC I am always confused. Does this thing take into account the temperature outside? Sometimes when i have it set to 72 its warm, other times its cold. Also the ac button is always lit up with I push auto. I found a setting in vehicle settings to turn the 'auto ac' off but when I do that the ac doesn't come on at all when its turned down to low. do I just need to give up on the auto settings and set it myself?

    Thanks!

It's pretty simple and I think you'll find that it's very good at regulating inside temperature in the "auto" mode. For example, I live in Phoenix. I leave mine set at 74 year round and on auto. When it's hot AF in the summer and 110 outside, it wants to cool the inside to 74. In the winter when it's 50 degrees on some mornings, it warms the interior up to 74. It's not complicated, and yes the AC light should be illuminated at all times in "auto". It's generally going to default to the dash vents, so if you want to change where the air is directed, you make that choice but it's still going to want to keep the temperature steady. Initially it's going to blow hard (hot or cold) to try to get it to the set temperature. Just let it work.

It takes into account temperature in the cabin and will heat/cool accordingly and mix both the heat from the heater core and cold from the AC system. It may need some cooling so AC will be on when in Auto.

Seems strange to have it at 78 degrees and feel a cool breeze coming through haha.. Ok I will just learn that 78 doesnt mean heat sometimes.... thanks!

Any idea on the auto AC setting in the vehicle settings?

Depends on starting cabin temperature (it'll cool if the cabin is hot) but also if you've just started the car, you won't get any heat until the engine warms up.

(There's a small electric heater but that only operates in specific conditions)

The AC also is great at dehumidifying, not just cooling air, so that's why it may operate when cooling isn't requested.

Leave Auto AC on and see if it does anything odd.

    thanks!

It is on, I just don't understand, is it so that the ac always comes on to dehumidify like what is said above?

Yes. For example, if you change your setting to "defrost" it's going to mix air conditioned air and heat to defrost the windshield. Frost is moisture in a frozen state. Air conditioning doesn't just mean "cold air", it actually means it "conditions" the air. In other words it drys the air.
