I had a deposit on the attached build but found one in stock today and bought it instead.

I have a $1000.00 non-refundable deposit on the attached build, so if anyone is interested I'd certainly try to see if the dealer would transfer my deposit. If they will, I'll split it with you.

There is a $399.00 dealer fee, and that is all I'm aware of... So the price is the sticker $49,792.00 + $399.00 -$1000.00 (deposit) = $49691.00 after splitting my deposit with you.

    Thanks
    Dan

we are buying a camry and multiple dealerships told us they cant legally keep your deposit if you dont do business with them. this kinda defeats the purpose but 3 dealerships told me that

I’ll give them a call and see what I can work out, but they had me sign some forms that looked like I might haVe a fight on my hands. We shall see.

In Texas they aren't legally bound to refund a deposit. It's up to the contract you signed and the mercy of the stealerships.

I don't hear too many horror stories about not getting it back. But they're there.

Varies by state. Ohio for example is refundable, which frankly negates the point of a deposit...

That is anyone’s guess, but it’s in port and waiting at the rail yard.
I hoped it would be in last week but I didn’t hear anything.

If it’s in port it shouldn’t be more than a couple weeks before it’s at the dealership

The dealer is in Lawrence KS.

The transaction, if approved by the dealer, would be directly between you and the dealer…

You must have signed a legal binding agreement when you deposited the $1000. Unfortunately.

Several years back I placed a deposit online for a used vehicle out of state. The vehicle was in a terrible condition when i went to pick it up. The dealer refused to return my deposit.

I called the credit card company. They said as long as i hadn't taken delivery of the vehicle. The dealership had no hold on me. My deposit was returned to me by the credit card company immediately. End of story.

    Always pay by credit cards.

I did pay with a credit card, but I think it’d be a lot easier if I brought a buyer to the table verses just walking away and demanding my money back.
I’ll ask the question, but I’m pretty sure I’m out the deposit.

Fuck that shady stealership. I put deposits down on multiple TRDPro allocations. I got them back no questions asked when mine arrived at a different dealership. Dispute the charge with the credit card company. Don't do that sales manger any favors, they can easily unload that 4runner.

I called just now. The sales person I was dealing with is no longer with them so I'm waiting to hear back from the sales manager.
It shouldn't be a big deal since these sell so darn fast, but who knows... It's not like its out of the question for a dealer to try to sneak another thousand out of a customer.

Depends on where you live. Where I live they certainly can keep your deposit. I put my deposit down on my 2023 4Runner over the weekend and they had no problem putting it in writing that it is refundable for any reason of my choosing.

Standard protocol is a refundable $500 at all the Toyota Dealerships that i visited last year.
They may not even get any allocation or Build to match.

Check if there’s a “support” email of some sort with your attorney general. Some states have laws protecting the buyer that require them to refund you. You could also check with Toyota itself if they have any day or something about this? But as you say, it would definitely be easier for them to refund if you brought another buyer.

The good thing is that it’s a 4Runner and the dealer won’t have any problems selling it to someone else 10 minutes after it hits the showroom. I’m assuming your purchase was at a different dealer than your deposit. Maybe they would step up and be gentlemen and give you the refund anyway as he’s not getting stuck with a vehicle he can’t sell .

I tried explaining it to them like that, but they didn’t budge.
yes, I purchased another one from a different dealer knowing I’d probably lose the deposit.
That’s why I thought I’d offer half of it to anyone looking verses lose the whole thousand.

This is the thinking and reason why dealers have to move to non-refundable deposits. Also a reason why it’s hard for buyers to acquire a specific 4Runner. You go around and place deposits on cars and take a spot in line. Those of us that just want to shop at one dealer are discouraged because the list is long with these kinds of deposits. Dealers also sell out from under people because of this.

OP is doing a great job trying to help the dealer and another forum member.

Some dealerships are probably not in good standing. and may never get any allocation.

Hence nickel and diming customers. The 4Runner is probably not even built yet. See no reason why it can’t be cancelled.

Just trying to be an ass.

Anyways, I shopped around last year but refused to put down the standard $500 REFUNDABLE deposit.

Finally found a local dealership that is always stocked with 4Runners and all new Toyota (on the lot or in-transit).

Got my TRD within a week (was in transit)

Those Toyota Websites would have a SMATHPATH option.

Ping me if you need the dealerships name

Every dealership I spoke to wanted a deposit to even be on the waiting list for an allocation. I was never first on line but the deposit is there in case the first buyer backs out for whatever reason. All those deposits were refundable. It's the dealers who set these rules. 4runners move quickly so there is no need for them to keep that deposit. The dealers don't pick colors either at least on the pro. I had to take whatever color was allocated (at least that was what I was told) or play the waiting game for lime rush. It's not like you can get a very peculiar build and then back out leaving the dealer stuck with something no one wants.
