Thinking about putting a coat of resin on the factory liner and maybe a light coat of mat so I could sand & paint it. this is for no other reason than to put a logo / stickers under the hood. I believe that factory liner would absorb the resin and I think this could finish nicely. just curious if anyone else has tried this?
    Thanks

My liner gets wet because I have the hood scoop. If you have one, I’d imagine you’d want to coat it on both sides so it doesn’t turn into a bucket.

But either way, I would think it would make it pretty heavy and make the hood flex more that it normally does over bumps and such. Seems like a lot of work, and drawbacks for stickers.

Some people cover the interior roof in patches, we decided to sticker the under hood as we built up.
and yes I was planning to seal both sides. Don’t think it would add too much weight. I’ve done it to headliners over the years for custom interior work.
    just never under the hood.

How does the headliner turn out when you do something like this? If I ever had a vehicle I would do that to, it’s the 4runner. Although I’d be locking in all the dirt lol.

On a headliner it usually works fine. The resin hardens the liner and then you can apply a leather or vinyl for a very custom tight finished look.

You could just remove the liner altogether. My 2013 didn't come with one. I had thought it had been removed somewhere along the way, but confirmed with other OG owners that theirs didn't come with it either.

It’s currently off and because I have the fake hood scoop it looks like trash, especially with the unpainted portion of the hood. I decided I’m going to go for it. I will post a picture of how it turns out. Probably be a few weeks or so but I will update when done.

At least you’ll be able to keep it from looking ratty as it ages. It would be interesting of you get a pre and post weight.

Also, do you have problems with your hood scoop leaking water onto the liner? Maybe it’s worth it to get the hood scoop sealed up better while you’re in there to keep water from rolling off a sealed liner directly onto something under the hood. On mine, it seems that it absorbs a fair amount of water and takes a bit to dry out after sitting in rain.

I don't have any problems with the hood scoop leaking, I am going to replace the seals just as a precaution because I am adding PPF to the hood. I will weigh it before & after also.
it also doesn't really rain here in So Cal, the most water it see's is from washing it.
