I was set on adding LFD cross bars until a friend recommended moving up to a rack since the factory rails have a reduced load limit.
I spent the last few days going through numerous threads here and on Reddit.
I was thinking about a 3/4 rack then read a comment that "no one with a full size rack wished they had a 3/4" it's always someone wishing they went full from the start.
The Crestones are going for $1500 and the Prinsu are currently on sale for $765. I'm usually in the buy once cry once crowd, but could use some help figuring out if the Crestone is worth twice the cost of the Prinsu (not pro) standard rack. Or are crossbars all I need?
I have no plans for a RTT and will only use the rack for pelican cases, fishing gear, and overflow when the cargo space is filled.

    which option would you chose?
    A) Cross bars and wind fairing ~$350
    B) Prinsu standard (non pro) ~$765
    C) Sherpa Crestone ~$1500 (currently on sale $1350)

I know this is asked often but thanks in advance.

Unless those pelican cases weigh a ton I think you would be fine with the crossbars only.

LFD warns not to exceed 135 lbs dynamic load. I think that includes the weight of the crossbars. Should be pretty easy to reach the 135lb limit. Rather play it safe and step up to a rack. If I'm wrong and the crossbar weight is not included, then cross bars may be a good fit for my needs.

^^What he said. Although it sounds like you've already answered your own question about whether the cross bars would be sufficient.

    Just my opinion.

But I'm not sure how roof rack companies advertiser a high dynamic load when it mounts to the same roof. I can see static load since it is more spread out with a rack.

    I'm also no expert.

yeah I came across a few threads and videos on load ratings. Seems there isn't a standard formula and low ratings may be companies shielding themselves from legal or warranty issues.

Option C. Sherpa. I have one and dont have any regrets. Im sure you could toss a coin between prinsu and sherpa.

Just spend the extra money and get the crestone. Very impressed with how solid they are. I have one with a xxl skybox and the Sherpa handles it great. The Sherpa is even beefy enough to use as a spot to grab and pull your self up while stepping on the rear tire. Sounds stupid but if helps a ton getting shit up and down
