New to this site, not to Toyotas. t4r.org had been going the direction of other less desirable, more "trollish" forums for a while, and the whole hacking debacle was the last straw for me. I was never super active anyways, loved the resources though.

Will probably become a bit more active here, got lots more plans for my 4th gen and I'm going to need a little feedback from time to time.

A semi-recent pic of the rig from our most recent trip to Big Bend National Park...IMG_2549.jpg

And a slightly more recent one showing my half painted wheels, with no RTT...

3" dobinsons coils and shocks, with heavy rear springs, prinsu rack, ditch lights, 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx's. Future plans include a drawer system and a DIY rear bumper with dual swingouts (probably coastal offroad) in the next year or so. Prob will go ahead and add some sliders and heavier skids at some point too.

Welcome and hope you find this place a little more welcoming.

    So...what hack did T4R suffer?

Apparently their vbulletin was insecure and the hacker setup redirects to a third party site when you entered some subforums or threads. Some chatter about it

Thanks for the welcome! Honestly, I don't know a lot about web dev stuff, but as best as I could tell, the site got hacked and messed with at least 2 separate times over the past week. Major stuff, like wiping posts, and also sending out emails to members and starting a spam insta account. Seemed sketchy, and unlike other forums where I've seen mods and owner/admins get super involved and send out regular updates to members about what's being done, there was nothing from the admin.

Welcome fellow newbie! This ultimately is why I think I'll stop posting there. The silence from the mods and owner and other things they did in the face of some serious symptoms was quite troubling to me.

That site is soooo slow to load for me. I don't know if it's because of the ads or what. But it's just not a user-friendly place in comparison to this site. And the web pages seem very "busy". Just not as pleasant of a user experience as TW and 4runners.com.

Agreed. Honestly there is a wealth of knowledge on that site, as long as the entire thing doesn't crash and disappear, I just want access to the info. Don't need a membership, and def don't need to be involved on that site. Too sketchy.

Did anyone post over there and suggest they all move over here?

I would generally think that the staff there wouldn’t be ok with something like that. That might build a little animosity towards this site.

It would be really nice to get a copy of all the write ups, how to’s and tech articles but I don’t want to go copying stuff against the poster wishes.

Might be time for us to roll up the proverbial sleeves and start our own.

vBulletin doesn't offer a way to delete your account from the user's side. I seriously doubt the admin will delete your account either as that leaves "holes" in the content of the forum.

Just stop posting there and unsubscribe from all of the threads.

I think the migration will happen eventually if they don't update their format; as the knowledge base here expands and grows. It will be slow, years, and then all of the sudden a tidal wave. That's my guess.
