Nice thing about individual pods is getting to chose exactly what light does what! My current setup is an Overkill Racing and Chassis OEM plus front bumper with 6 Auxbeam Colorplay lights. 4 ambers in the center that are 2 floods and 2 spots. Then the 2 outers are two clear spots and my ditch lights are 2 clear spots. Mostly for help look for deer on long dark stretches. I've been pretty happy with this setup so far!

The biggest difference between amber and white lights is in dusty/foggy/raining conditions....amber lights will have less glare coming back at you vs white lights.

Whatever you go with, adjust them so you don't blind oncoming traffic. Don't be like douche bag jeep owners. Nice looking rig.

Exactly why i went amber/yellow for my ditch lights. Worked great in the last snow storm, couldn't imagine how bad white would have been up high like that.

Since your headlights are white already, assuming they're the factory LED ones, I'd lean more amber for more options

check you state law, in my state you can have as many as want, just you can only have 4 clear lights (headlights & driving lights) the rest of the clear must have covers or they all can be amber and you need no covers. while on the streets

I went with SS3 amber fogs, and plan to go with amber ditch lights as well. I was pleasantly surprised at just how well they performed through the wintery weather we just went through in the southeast. They really are better than white in lower visibility situations. Well worth it!

I prefer white as well. White works well on foggy conditions with my experience. Love more brighter white lights.

Also find very annoying to my eyes when someone with amber fogs coming towards me. Amber does not look to my taste.

Adding a pic of my almost factory looking/ low profile, relatively cheap light setup-

I have yellow covers for my white rear chase lights as well as blackout covers for all depending on what states i drive through if they require covering them, like PA. Always good to be prepared.

Nice setup. Can you share as to what lights you used? I'm looking at doing something like this as well. Thanks!

    Here's my setup.
I would advice not to get S1 for ditch lights. Get something bigger and brighter.

This is an interesting one! I had not thought about the different laws out there. Funny when I start to consider what are lights are now. How many "lights" if you have a light bar with multiple LED bulbs? or in the post above where there are multiple pods in the same configuration as a light bar. Is that 1 or many?

I did a quick search of Oregon and found lights cant be higher than 54", which my truck is over 6', so if I had a rack-mounted light, it is not ok. I think there are exceptions, like covering the lights when not in use. I call that out because I would not have thought of that and I have seen a few on here with roof mounted lights...

Oregon says I can have "aux" lights as well as "fog lights" and they are different, so I would have to dig a lot further to determine if we have a 4 light limit.

On a side note: I noticed some of the Amazon trucks and a few Jeeps with alternate colored headlights. The Amazon trucks is when they turn and such, their headlight blinks yellow. The Jeeps though, they had red headlight rings with the white light off. That pissed me off because I thought all forward lights must be white/yellow (non-red) and rear facing lights were red (except reverse). Red in front seems scary.

Regarding blinding people with headlights, I had to re-adjust my headlights after lifting the front a bit more. I wondered what the correct adjustment was and followed that, however now I see Oregon has a rule on it and I think it says I can blind people with my headlights!

The rule: "Headlights shall be aimed in accordance with rules adopted by the department. If headlights provide only a single distribution of light and are not supplemented by auxiliary lights, the single beam headlights shall be so aimed that when the vehicle is not loaded, none of the high intensity portion of the light shall, at a distance of 25 feet ahead of the vehicle, project higher than five inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes, or higher than 42 inches above the level on which the vehicle stands at a distance of 75 feet ahead of the vehicle."

So 42" is higher than many hoods and if I am still at 42" at 75', then I am blinding someone! My headlights are about 44" high when level. If I reduce by 5" @ 25', then I will still blind those that are close.

We have a Subaru Outback and when we first got it, so many poeple would flash us and it was fresh off the lot. We had Subaru lower them. I think the Subaru lights are now higher than the 4runner due to the vehicle being much lower to start, so I wonder if the subaru drops 5" @ 25'.

    Now I have a research project. ;)

Amber fogs and anything low, like light bars in bumpers. White up high.

Amber will cut through fog and dust better and produce less glare for the driver, period; amber light's longer wavelength cuts through dust and fog particles better than white light. White light will reflect back into your eyes a lot more. You wouldn't use any lights up top in fog or snow; it will just increase glare in most cases. Ditch lights and anything up top in front are white for superior distance, rear chase lights up top are amber for better visibility for people behind me ion my dust cloud.

    My 2 cents.

Amber. All around it’s more useful and it’s easier on your eyes in the dark. I find it provides better definition on trail as well. If you need white light out front you have 2 levels of headlights you can use.

Are you happy with the Auxbeam? They get really good reviews . They are alot cheaper than most lights.

The only thing that holds me back from AuxBeam is I’m unsure on their coating for the housing. I’ve seen examples of pretty good fading and pretty sure any DIY coating will effect heat dissipation. Cant confirm that though.

I've been thinking about getting some for behind the grill with white drl's then changing my factory drl's to extra high beams. I want the extra light when driving in the country.

for 2021+ you can get a high beam trigger wire harness. I bet @Puppypunter can help.
You can use that highbeam trigger wire to turn on auxilary lights.
May be in near future there will be a complete kit to make the DRL bulbs do double-duty as DRL & High beams. ;)

for Switches we’re going with Diode Dynamics D Switch on both vehicles. With its solid state circuits and 9th circuit for backlighting it’s hands down the best option out there for a DIYer to get a clean, easy to setup and use control panel for multiple lighting systems in an off road vehicle. It’s expensive but it’s innovative and worth it to me. Your milage may vary.
