@Blazefast4runner , looks like @djwantke is jealous of your 4Runner, so he's gonna buy a 6th gen and lower it to be just like you! :D

I can't decide if that makes the truck better or worse (if that's possible).

DJ, buy one and do it?

No mall crawling in that. You'd high center on the first speed bump.

Speed bump? Ha! You'd high center it on the first pebble you drive over! :D

One turbo = an undersized engine
Two turbos = a really undersized engine

Huh. Make those rear fender flares 20% bigger and it will have the look of a 2 door 4RUnner again. LOL

4 cylinder SUV's are in the same class as front wheel drive pickups. Not ready for prime time.

I suspect some sanity will return to Toyota and they will bring back 6 cyl.....but only after sales plummet for a couple years.

...meanwhile while my 2024 TRD Pro will be in high demand

The reality of the market is, the crowd that buys a new 4runners every few years to commute with, they would be fine in a Rav4 too since they don't keep theirs long enough to make a difference anyway and they are the ones driving the ongoing changes to make the 4runner ever more RoadRunner than a proper offroad SUV. And they are worth more to Toyota than people on this board who don't buy new vehicles as often. Each iteration the 4runner gets longer, wider, heavier, the overhangs grow, the suspension is tweaked for better onroad characteristics, squeeze more fuel economy, and less manual operation from the driver. At some point people who buy 4runners for offroading will have to make a decision if it is still the right vehicle. That day is here for me if I ever have to replace my 23.

4-cylinders are perfectly fine, it's a wide range between a HyunKia 2.4 to the GM 2.7T to Toyota's older 2.7 and newer 2.4T. (And that's just models that run on gasoline.)

FWD is perfectly acceptable in a pickup if you just want the open bed - you just have to pick according to your wants/needs.

FWD trucks are only acceptable if they are used as cars and not as actual trucks. ;)

I'm 66, I bought a 23 Limited with 69000 miles on it, now has 80K on it, and it will probably be the last car I own. I love it, we suit each other. By the time I get to 400,000 miles I should be 90 and my kids will take it from me and my great grandkids can drive it. Woohoo

Depends on what you're using your "truck" for.

If you're just hauling shit home from Home Depot, any pickup is fine, even if it's FWD.

If my 4Runner, God forbid, ever meets an untimely end, and I don't at the same time, it will not be replaced with another 4Runner of any year, I figure. I'll look for something I don't need to climb on the tire to clean the roof when I wash it. Probably look at a Rav4.

A FWD pickup is just...odd. For the few times a FWD pickup might be used for home depot, might as well just install a class 1 or 2 hitch on a sedan or crossover for the occasional rental of a utility trailer. Why drive around with a 4 foot open bed all the time that then needs a tonneau cover if you want to leave stuff in it without being rained and sunbaked on?

IDK. But, I have a friend who drives a Maverick and he really likes it. To each their own.

It's definitely no worse than all of the Suburban dads driving around in full size trucks everyday just because they might have to haul a piece of plywood twice a year.

Fair. That's why I drive around in a 4runner, at least my extremely valuable limited edition Harbor Freight bungee cords and storage crates are well protected, I have no intention of being accosted by "friends" in need of someone with a pickup. LOL.

Decision made. Still don't want a 6th gen but would go with a new LC if I needed to. Then I'd complain about the limp wrist sounding engine.

I like how it looks but can't get over the 18 gallon tank, that's smaller than my 25 year old camry that gets 32mpg on the highway. The real world range is going to be less than 250 miles before you have to refuel with some urgency.

For an ostensibly overlanding capable "Land Cruiser" that's not a lot of range to overland.

But switching to a 4 pooper turdo gave it 95 MPG more...oh wait.

    Oh dang I forgot. LOL.

When CCN put it on a lift he pointed out there is a lot of empty space around the tank that was wasted. It could easily be a 22 gallon tank but Toyota decided to just let the buyers deal with it.
