Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

6th gen hybrid is a rocket ship when whomping on it to pass someone.

6th gen gas only felt about the same to me as the 5th in terms of getting up to speed when passing, but was quicker to respond.

How a 5th gen responds is totally based on how fast you put the pedal to the floor.

You go around trying to race 6th gens and keep getting beat by them? LOL. That's hilarious.

In my area I almost never see 6th gens even though every block has a 5th gen, so it's not an issue for me.

Who said I was racing them? I said that in real world driving the new is faster than the old.

And don't flatter yourself! You are also getting beat by everyone in your 5th gen out on the highway. Nobody gets a 5th Gen for speed and acceleration.

Speak for yourself, but when I come to a stop light my wheelie bars come out and my motor mounts get snapped from the immense amounts of low end camming torque. LOL

I have only seen a few 6th Gen’s on the road near me this year. Definitely less than 5 probably. I would be curious what the sales figure are as we approach the end of the year.

0-60 times may be nice for comparisons if you can get consistent measurements from the numerous testers out there (nope). But in real-life daily driving, they're almost meaningless. My 2019 is 'plenty fast', and that's all I need. I've never asked any of my 4Runners, beginning with my 1988 22R-E, to be quick, just reliable. There's the win.

I've definitely seen a number of 6th gens around but cars tend to be nicer and/or more variety is noticeable in North Dallas. (more than several Cybertrucks, a few Grenadiers, a couple VinFast VF8's and Fisker Oceans each, even a single TRD Sport 5th gen in solar octane.)

I cant get down with those numbers...
That graph shows in June 2025, the 4Runner had a measly sales month of 5,793 sold
That graph shows in July 2025, the 4Runner had its best sales month in the history of 4Runners with 14,582?
That graph also shows that Q3 2025 the 4runner had its best sales quarter in the history of 4Runners with 36,849?

I dont think those are real, actual, factual numbers.
Why? I own a bunch of Toyotas, i drive by the Toyota dealer multiple times a day and often times while riding around in the evenings killing time, the wife and i drive thru all the dealers lots just to see whats out there. We probably do this once a week or every two weeks. We like looking at new vehicles to see whats out there. Why i say i dont believe these numbers is
    1) vehicle sales are in the gutter, people in general dont have a lot of money, and are not buying a ton of vehicles right now. This is why EVERY car dealership lot is starting to stack up and they are gaining inventory (because they cant sell it)
    2) during my multiple trips past the dealer every day, i see and notice things, like every single 18 wheeler getting unloaded. I see what comes in, what gets unloaded, what gets put out on the front line as eye candy for everyone to see. The number of 4runners shipped to our local dealer has been VERY LOW, like 9 or 10 this whole year.
    3) i dont think Toyota is producing as many 6th gens right now due to sales. The parking lots are flooded with Camrys, Tacomas, Rav4s, and Tundras, but the parking lots are not flooded with 4runners. The parking lots are not flooded with 4runners because the dealers are not getting them in the same volume numbers.

The available data i have, would indicate there is no possible way Toyota sold 14,582 2025 4Runners in July 2025 because i simply dont believe there were that many 4Runners on dealer lots, NOR do i believe that many people would buy one in those numbers due to the interest rates, and financial stability of the vast majority of consumers. People are not spending money on cars because they dont have the money because the interest rate and prices are so high they couldnt make the monthly payments so they are not buying new. I believe that chart about as well as i believe the political polls the media speaks so highly about prior to every election.

5th gen is a solid brick

6th gen is a clay mold

Thats my analogy and im sticking with it

    Id rather have the brick

Toyota has sold 67,001 4Runners so far through September. The uptick in July may have been the result of a stop sale earlier in the year, I can’t remember when that ended.

Sold to customers or sold to the dealerships?
I drive a lot and I rarely see 6th gen’s on the road.

I have seen 5 or 6 Land Cruisers come thru the dealer this year, which would be about half what i have seen for 4runners. If the Land Cruiser numbers are true, then you can "safely" double these numbers and likely see about where the 4Runner sales are. If you wanna be super generous then triple it to see what you think a "max" number of 4runners would be. Remember, the 4Runner is built on the same assembly line as the Land Cruiser now, they are co-mingled and run the same chassis, engine, trans, suspension, and run down the same assembly line and are targeted at the same customer base. Pretty confident Toyota isnt building 20,000 4runners a month down the Tahara line like they may have in the past, now they are building the 4Runner and Land Cruiser and GX550 on the same assembly line simultaneously. I dont think Toyota is producing quite as many 4runners which is why i cant calculate how Toyota would have sold 14,000 4Runners in July of 2025

The 4Runner's roll out was a lot slower than the Land Cruisers.....which is evident when you compare Jan and Feb numbers for each.

At the same time, the Land Cruiser has always been projected to be a lower volume vehicle than 4Runner. I'm sure they would be very happy with something around 50k units sold per year.

The 4Runner has made it into the 100k/year category in previous yearly sales so I'm willing to bet that's what they are projecting for 2025.

It will be interesting to see how close they get to these numbers. If they are close, they will keep things the way they are. If they are falling behind, they will ratchet up the incentives.

toyota sales figures are gonna be from Toyota to the stealerships. Not the individual franchise sales.
So it doesn't differentiate sitting on lots, rental cars, etc.

True. We can't use those numbers as being exact direct to consumer sales.

However, I think they show us a general trend of how consumer sales are going.

Dealers aren't in the parking lot business. They're in the selling cars business. They pay interest every day on cars that they buy from the manufacturer. If cars are sitting on the lot and not moving, they purchase fewer the next month.

Take the Land Cruiser example above. Looks like dealers were ordering a consistent number the first half of the year and then around June it slowed......so they would almost certainly order fewer. Consumer sales would be a bit ahead of this.....so sometime in Spring, people started to pull back on buying a Land Cruiser and that continued into Summer.

Maybe we will see some incentives on the Land Cruiser at the end of the year if that trend continues.

I noticed this thread some time ago. All these answers and inputs are very interesting and informative. But I gotta say that I dont consider 6th gen 4R. I am seriously considering INEOS Grenadier at this point. Trialmaster option, with some custom add-ons from the factory. A true 4x4....Im sorry it is off the subject in the thread.

they also want those floor plans they are paying the payments and interest on are wanting their money whether the truck sells or not. So they will start discounting sooner than later.

Occam's Razor: it appears you just suck at driving. LOL.

Must be tough to fall from an LC200 to only be able to get into a 12+ year old SR5 4runner.

Car dealers are less in the car business than in the financing and service business. Their margins on new cars are typically very low compared to used car sales, service, repair, and brokering financing on loans and service contracts.

Toyota dealers are known to be pressured into taking deliveries from Toyota's regional distributors on slower moving units in order to get allocations on more desirable units, e.g. take in more Tacos that sit on lots in order to get more Siennas and Rav4 hyrids.

The only thing stopped me from pulling the trigger was the lack of dealer network for support. My local BMW dealer said they won't touch it, and the nearest dealer from me is all the way at the north end of the bay area which is more than an hour each way from me, in day time traffic.

The motor is a good one, the transmission is solid, and even has a hand brake.

Toyota does an allocation, they send what they are building to dealers. Toyota also sends stuff the dealers dont want, all the time. Dealers dont get to pick and choose everything they want and stop ordering when sales are low.... NO SIR.... They get a healthy dose of the same thing every month regardless on how full their lot is. They get an allocation, Toyota basically has their computers figure out what goes where. Dealers can search thru these allocations and do dealer trades with another dealer if they see something they want or have a customer looking for a specific model or color. Other than that, the dealer gets what Toyota sends them.
I am not seeing a ton of Land Cruisers and new 4Runners at dealers because Toyota isnt flooding the dealers with them. This makes me think Toyota isnt building quite as many of them, otherwise they would be piling up in the dealer lots.
