Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

I love my 23 ORP and will pay it off hopefully soon. I will keep it forever.

However, I put a ton of miles on vehicles and my 5th gen is just a thing of beauty and wanna keep it as low mileage as I can (yes I know I can get nearly 400k miles out of it and it's at 23k miles as I post this). I am heavily considering a 6th gen in 3-4 years. I just love my 5th gen so much and I wanna take care of it as much as I can. I have been watching too many videos on the 6th gen and the CCN video sealed the deal for me just like how he sealed the deal for me with my 5th gen. He approves of the 6th gen, even though he thinks Toyota did mess up with how they positioned the 4R and LC250. However out of both, idk why I like the 4R more.

Yes, pricing has gone up, but surprisingly the Limited trim hasn't gone up astronomically like the OR, ORP, Sport, and Pro. I remember when I was shopping around for my ORP, I saw that Limiteds were mid-upper $50k... and now the 6th gen Limited went up by a couple thousand and not $10k-$15k like the other trims. According to CCN, the Limited has excellent quality and way better interior quality than the 4th gen Taco that's made in Mexico. Looks like the Limited trim kept its luxury.

IMO, the 6th gen Limited in Heritage Blue and the Portobello Leather is just a beauty.

    I drank the kool-aid, I want it!

PS: hopefully the economy doesn't tank, this future purchase will be dependent on that.

If that’s the case IMHO you should be considering a less expensive vehicle.

ETA: I’m not considering a 6th gen. Unless things change radically my next car will be a vintage Bronco, Blazer, Wagoneer, or Scout.

Remember that the prices you saw on the 2024 were real world builds including options whereas the 6th gen prices you are using are the theoretical base price that you will never see on the lot. The "starting" price for a 24 limited 4wd was 52k. The equivalent 25 starts at 59k. So you may need to expect to spend and extra 7k or more depending on options. Every 4wd 2025 limited I see in my area is 64k or more.

Yep. For a high mileage pavement pounder if I have to be in an SUV of sort sort, I would rather be in a 2wd rav4 or highlander that's more comfortable, cheaper to buy/insure/register/run, and less maintenance intensive.

Otherwise I would be in a 29k Camry hybrid that gets 53mpg all day long.

I'm also thinking the next vehicle investment I want to make is going to be a classic Blazer or Suburban. I'll keep the 4Runner or some kind of a beater for commuter duties, but at this point there aren't any new cars that I'm interested in.

Definitely considering one but it’s a few years away still. It’d be another Limited, probably supersonic red. I’d likely keep the 2011 as well.

I do like the Sport too since it does have the same body color fender flares. Only reason I choose the Limited is for the FT 4WD. Much easier for the snowy conditions I encounter in my travels and also the lux interior.

    I can attest to this.

I had a rental Camry and I used it mostly in EV mode... I got approximately 60 MPG by my calculations. Loved it.

The new Camrys are pretty nice. I also had one as a rental earlier this year.

Even the base LE has a really nice interior... tbh it impressed me a lot. I would love one, but unfortunately my lifestyle requires me to have a bigger trunk for all my gear and a hitch for bikes.

Not paying that for a depreciating asset. I sure won’t be owning both. Over double insurance? Nope. Unless something catastrophic happens to my ‘24 I’ll be driving it every day for a long time with a big smile on my face.

I would consider the 6th Gen., it's like lots of things, you get used to the body style changes, powertrain, and interior changes. What are people expected to do trash the brand because of change? The same brand that previously was the best thing on earth. I will NOT get used to the price though. Toyota has always been a "better" bargain than it's competition, not so much right now. When the time comes we will see how the new generation of Toyota has performed, how dependable the new powertrain has been and try to get over the price change. There will also be a certain amount of used 4Runners to be had, some at low miles from the people that tried them and couldn't get past the change.

No. My 19 will be with me for quite some time barring something catastrophic. Even then the 6th Gen 4Runner doesn’t offer enough of the elements that brought me to the platform starting with my 03 4th Gen, particularly at the price point. Styling is obviously subjective but the new design exterior does not appeal to me either.

The large iPad sticking up out of the center dash and the terrible leg room in the backseat made it a non-starter for me. Otherwise I kinda like it. Time will tell.

Not me. My kid most likely get a 5th gen Limited.

Have a slight chance of getting a GX460. Did look at LC200. The mpg and fuel range does not seem worth buying. Since Mr CarCareNut rate 5th gen 4runner engine higher than GX460 and LC200 I'm tempted towards another 5th gen 4runner.

Also Mrs and kid will never follow cautions in the 6th gen owners manual like to let the turbo cool down. So these newer turbo engines not ideal for my house hold.

Gen6 is a comprehensive overhaul of the same successful 4Runner formula, complete with modern features that most buyers expect in 2025, like…a place to rest your cell phone. It should not be overlooked that the new one also provides its occupants next-gen safety in an environment of rapidly escalating (ridiculous) curb weights. You’re definitely not wrong to want a Gen6, just wait for a good discount.

And, Gen5 will always be charming and reliable, so keep or trade up, can’t go wrong.

I’ll test drive one later this year for the wife’s new daily driver. The other contenders are currently the Passport, Pathfinder and LC. I would prefer a low mileage 5th gen but that may not be possible to find.

At my age with a basically new 2024 Limited, I cannot envision getting one, but it is hard to predict things, especially the future.

    My current answer is ”awehellno”
I’ve glanced at them in parking lots and not a fan. Engines are too new to commit to as well.
But, someone will buy them or not.

The drop in payload capacity in the 6th gen is enough to make me hesitant on it compared to the 5th gen. 300 to 500lbs less than the 5th gen depending on model is huge.

Nope. Styling is good, interior is better but seems tight and I just don’t want the 4 banger drivetrain. I’d go Tundra, Bronco or Ranger V6.

Saw one for the first time today in a parking lot. While it looks better in person, still not my style, and I see no need to change.

I'm definitely thinking about the Trailhunters rack on my 19. Idk how different the mounting points are on these new ones yet

I sold my Tacoma in 22 with the plan to get a new 24 Tacoma. After driving one and a Frontier I thought about getting the Nissan. It road better and was quieter. But it isn't a Toyota. Knowing that the 4runner is basically a Tacoma I opted for a 5th gen. The rear of the new 4runner looks like an ugly mini van, the rest looks good, but I'm not sold on the 4cyl turbo.

Looks like the EPA under the current admin will either gut CAFE or change it. Maybe the V6 will come back you never know.
