I purchased the AJT Design Injection Key Fob For 4Runner (2010-2019). I am writing to express my concern with the keyfob installation. While the installation was smooth, the keyfob does unlock or lock the car but when I turn the ignition it does not start the vehicle when I use it. I did not damage the sensor when transfering from the OEM key to the new one and assume if it was damaged it would not lock and unlock the car!

I have noticed that the OEM key starts the car without any issues. I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance on how to resolve this problem.

I have no issues with my AJT Designs fob. Perhaps there’s a manufacturing defect, I.e. plastic remnants at the hole locations for the battery and guts?

Pretty sure the transponder is for starting only not lock/unlock.

If its doesn't start I'm going with it being damaged.

I used a razor blade to cut around the whole transponder so it was a small piece first then just cut slowly around the plastic and glue.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
That's really odd, because the push button start is based off proximity, not a button you press the fob. Take apart the AJT Key and make sure nothing is damaged and it's sitting in there correctly. It's flush, no obstructions, etc..

I have the AJT key and it has worked flawlessly since day one.

I did the same and was very careful and very slow but it is hard to tell if i might have damaged it or not!? If it is damaged what are the options to get this key working again?

When you say OEM key starts without issues, you mean the backup key? If you moved the sensor to the AJT, the original OEM should no longer work.

I have the AJT for 2019 - moving the sensor was a PITA. If you have a backup key, you could try moving that sensor to AJT. If the original sensor was damaged during installation then dealer is probably your only alternative now

Sorry I have 2 OEM keys, I moved one of the keys to AJT with the sensor and the other one is a back up as original OEM!

Do we have to lock or unlock with the same key that the car needs to start with in the ignition? I might have had both keys in my pocket trying to make sure they were both good and maybe that created some confusion? Not sure as I want to explore all the possibilities before trying to move the sensor from the backup to the AJT!!! Thank you

I didn't realize you had push to start.

If it damaged prolly need to get a new transponder and have it programmed at dealer.

I don't know for sure but wouldn't think the lock/unlock feature ties to the ignition in any way. I could be wrong.

Sounds like the sensor you moved is no longer working. Not sure if dealer can fix, maybe they could give you a replacement. I assume it needs some type of programming

Edit - also didn't know you had push button start. I saw 2010-2019 and assumed physical key

I dont have push to start!!! It is a ‘17 TRD PRO with actual key in the ignition to start the car. I can see how having both kids in the pocket was confusing sorry. They were in my pocket and I was not sure which one I used to lock or unlock the car and when I used the AJT one it kept trying but there was no start (almost like the starter was not kicking and if I continued it would kill the battery which is brand new!). Hope this helps

I'd think it must be damaged in some way then. Dealer should be able to replace the sensor

    Shit sorry.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the transponder doesn't have anything to do with the unlock feature then. Probably no way to tell unless you try to get someone to link the transponder again and see if it works or not.

I assume this might be an expensive switch at the dealer, are there other options within these forums or users?

I will , looks like Ace Hardware does cutting and programming and I found the keys from Amazon, will give it a shot this weekend. Take the transponder from one of the Amazon keys carefully and plan it on the AJT fob and program it!!! Hope it works

Nice, let us know how it goes. The Amazon/ace route is probably way cheaper than a dealer. May help someone in the future - apparently the sensors are very easily damaged
