I have an aftermarket stereo in my 2nd gen 4Runner. It is an Alpine UTE-73BT. (Single DIN) Whenever I disconnect the car battery, the stereo gets completely reset to default. The custom colour I had set is back to default, the radio station presets are erased (that part I can understand), and it resets the Bluetooth settings so I have to forget the device on my phone and re pair it. Anyone know why this is? I've had this stereo in other vehicles and the only thing that it did if the battery got disconnected was reset the radio presets and time. If this is normal for the 4Runner, thats fine but if not, I'm curious as to what's going on

That happens on 5th gen W/Stock OEM system. It's electronic that's what happens when the pwr is completely disconnected.

It's the headunit, not an issue with the truck. Not sure why it would change between vehicles but basically it has volatile memory.

Good to know. The biggest thing that bugs me is the color resetting and it forgetting my phone. Resetting radio stations and the clock? Minor. Changing the color back and re pairing my phone? Inconvenient. But it is what it is. :) I'm not complaining at all, I really like that stereo, just was surprised it resets everything

Whenever I have to remove the battery I put jumpers on the cables and a spare battery sitting on the floor to keep power in the system. Then I can swap out the battery with a new one and remove the jumpers. I don't have to reset anything. Just be careful with the jumpers.

Thats really weird. Mine doesnt do that. It used to but it stopped. My fix was that I threatened to replace it and throw it in the trash if it did it again. Straightened it right up. I would suggest trying this.

Or some sort of verbal abuse like "a real HU would hold its settings.." or something.

GL to you hope this helps

    Oooh look, another mod.....
So what the OP should do is have Chuck Norris threaten the head unit!

Seems the unit doesn't store settings in flash memory:

Interesting, but Amazon says it's no longer available.
There are reviews that the 9V didn't have enough power to last more than a couple of minutes. I guess it depends on how many things it has to power while you're trying to clean the terminals and then swapping the battery. If I were going to use this I would cut off the 9V connector and splice on additional wiring to connect to a 12v LiON project battery. But then if you have the project battery, just connect it to the car's battery terminals while cleaning and swapping batteries. :)

In in Canada anyway, so I can find other ones off Amazon.ca that are available (and with better reviews)
