While installing a steel bumper, I cut my 5th gen plastic bumper cover. I then used an oscillating orbital sander at 60/80 grit to even the cut line and make the edge pretty.

However, there's a bit of extra material mostly on the paint side, probably due to the paint holding on more than the plastic. I don't want to sand at an angle to remove the material for obvious reasons, but I don't know how to remove it. Suggestions? Thank you.

Is that going to be the finished edge, or are you adding edge trim?

It's going to be my finished edge. I'm not against some edge trim if it's body colored, though. Anyone know where one would find body colored trim?

Maybe just do a super basic sand on the edges, if you haven't already. I cut my bumper with a Dremel then used Cowles Custom Auto Edge Trim. In Canada at Canadian Tire it's black chrome and gold options. But Cowles US website has colors, like orange and red. That edge kinda disappears with the bumper installed, maybe color instead of black would look cool I kinda wish I tried white on mine. Otherwise I don't see anyone paint matching.
    Goodluck!

Hand sand it and take your time. Id use edge trim though, it just makes it look more finished.

I think body colored edge trim would be weird looking. I suggest the black stuff, much like jeans, you can wear black accessories with anything on your truck....

If your bumper is going to be black, you won't notice black edge trim.

You're probably right. I think I'll just get edge trim and call it a day. Probably just over thinking it.

I don't know what NIW means but here is a picture. I will take it off again to level it, then install a windshield washer skid plate.

fyi…taping with masking tape then cutting would have prevented this. Scoring the cut line with a sharp knife before cutting would have helped too.

That was supposed to be Now, not NIW. Fat finger typing...

That looks great. To be honest, I can't see any issue with leaving it as is, OR adding edge trim. Judging from your photos, you really can't see much of what you're describing in post one, at least from a ways back.

That is a lot of bumper right there...

Ha, I just figured NWI meant something online as I'm out of touch with most of that.

It looks massive but it really isn't in person. In fact, it looks tightly snugged up against the front. You can't really see the top of the hoops while driving, even. Here is a side view which may help illustrate my point. Plus keep in mind my engine skid is right below the bumper so it looks like one big thing.

Thanks. CBI Adventure bumper 2014-2019 fitted to a 2022 ORP. DIY TSS relocation, have a thread about it if you're interested. Took some adjusting but got it right.
