Hi guys, new to the forum. Just wanted to see what everyone had to say. My father in law is building a house and looking for some extra cash. He has an 04 Limited V8 with 130k miles, I offered him 5k thinking that it would be a pretty decent deal at that price and would give me the option to head out a little deeper in the national forrests here in Arkansas when I go on camping trips (currently taking the family out in a Kia Sedona when we camp, which makes a lot of places inaccessable).

The only issue is the cracked veneer on the dash, and I will inspect it thoroughly for rust before we make the final deal (we don't have to use salt on the road here most of the time in winter, so I think rust problems are unlikely also). I know that it has been well kept and maintained, but wanted to know if anyone had any advice on potential pitfalls here. Based on what I've seen 5K is not a bad price here, but what do you guys think?

Without even seeing it, I think you getting a crazy good deal. It is 4x4 right?

Yes, it is a 4x4. As soon as I go up there next week, I'll grab some pictures and post them. The thing is in great condition.

It's getting harder and harder to find anything with a V8 anymore, much less a decent Toyota truck with that mileage. I say grab it before he changes his mind, or someone offers him $10k...

He accepted, but made it clear he wouldn't sell at that price to any one else.

Careful, this transaction may be grounds for a felony theft conviction.

    Seriously, nice score.

I offered free use of it for him if he ever needs it and labor on his new house also (I'm not a professional, but I'm a pretty competant carpenter and plumber). I didn't realize how good of a deal it was until I got on here and saw people talking about dealers asking between 12k and 17k for similar vehicles. I don't want to rip him off, for sure. He's a good guy and we've been friends for years, longer than I've actually known my wife. I also think he doesn't like that it never gets driven at the moment. He starts it once a week and drives it to town about once a month just to keep it in good working order, but he prefers his pickup

That’s a smoking deal, you can’t hardly buy any Toyota 4x4 for $5k.

"The only issue is the cracked veneer on the dash"

There was a recall from Toyota for the cracked dash

They replaced mine for free. I have 2005.

Try contacting a Toyota dealer. Maybe they can replace your dash too?

To find out if your vehicle is eligible for the dashboard warranty extension, contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or Lexus at 800-255-3987.

The cracked dash recall has been over for many years, no dealer will replace a 4th gen 4runners cracked dash under recall.

Good buy. I sold my dad's similar aged, similar mileage V8 2wd for a similar price to a good friend for what we all considered a really good deal. Like a friends and relatives kind of deal.
