    Hello,

besides the brake squeals on the new 4Runner. Is anyone dealing with issues? I’m contemplating on making a purchase and am test driving some this weekend before I make a decision. I would like to hear from current 6gen owners

6th Gen 4Runners are too new to really tell, 25 is the first year of this generation. You will be early adopter.

I have 5000 miles on mine. Zero issues. Just had the 5K mile service done (free). 21.4 mpg average (30/70 city/highway).

    No personal experience.
    Per online, transmission issues;
(Tacoma has a official TSB for the same. 4runner not included yet.)

And one of the members here experienced the dead pedal issue which I experienced the same on a 2025 Land Cruiser. Completely loss of power when the gas pedal is pressed.

I also complained the the 2025 4runners I tested don't have fullsize spare tire.

Unless another TSB was released, the TSB was for early run Tacos, which is why the 4Runner isn’t included.

That would’ve been me. After hearing about it on the Tundra forum and experiencing it on the 4Runner, I’d pass on the hybrid at least. Too many close calls reported on the Tundra forum. I don’t believe I’ve read any dead pedal issues on the non-hybrid 4Runners.

Regardless, what I said in the picture above still stands true and I’d probably wait a model year or two before jumping in.

You know it’s kinda sad that is the case now a days with new vehicles. All manufacturers are going through it. I’ve had no issues with my tundra but there have been many TSBs and recalls addressed. I don’t know if I want to deal with that. I’ll keep watching for a while before making the jump on the 4Runner. Last thing I want is the wife getting a dead pedal and something happening

It seems like a sad automotive industry overall. Obviously Toyota has many issues but I don’t know of any vehicles right now where people say hey that is great vehicle with a great reputation. The big three have all sorts of issues and Ford look at 104 recalls or something stupid this year.

Maybe one vehicle comes to mind not in a SUV segment is the outgoing Lexus ES with a V6.

All the manufacturers are going to the turbos or hybrids or electrics and we have too much new stuff coming for the market place that is not time tested. Obviously that does not help the old school 4R buyer like many of us who want to buy something to keep for many years.

This could be one-off or a start of recall (or influencer doing something for clicks). Too early to tell. Keep in mind, someone somewhere purchased brand new 5th gen and had early transmission failure (5th gen has bulletproof transmission).

As someone else stated, every manufacturer has similar or worse issues. My wife drives an older 2013 MB GL450 so I like to visit the MB forums which can be eye opening. But I also realize that forum members are a very small subset of the actual owner population so everything is magnified.

If I'm not mistaken 5th gen didn't have a transmission change. In 5th gen the 4L 1GR-FE got dual vvti vs the single vvti had on the 4th gen.

In addition the multi mode (parttime) 4wd system lose the center diff. So no more center diff unlock option when 4H is selected.

Are you saying it didn't change from the 4th gen? I thought the 4th gen V6 models had a 4 speed automatic.

Ahh, I didn't realize they changed it then.

I wish they had kept the multimode transfer case.

100%. My colleague and my section director have 4th gens. Even though they are electronic 4wd selectors and center diff button so far never an issue when we were talking about them.

On the same theory one can argue that the 8 speed transmission on the 2025 4runner is been there since 2017(or 2018) highlander. But it was problematic even in 2022 highlander where Toyota bought back my friends highlander under lemon law.

Hopefully they worked the bugs out of it. But, I have heard of some issues with Tacoma Transmissions so I guess we'll see.

    My sister had a failed A750F in her 2014 4Runner at 107k.

While likely similar, I can’t imagine it’s just a matter of shifting it from transversal to longitudinal mounting - but I could be wrong. We are going to see a higher number of issues appear on the UA80s just because of the sheer volume being produced. It’s in almost everything Toyota makes now, just like the A25A. My moms 2017 Highlander has the UA80 and it’s been flawless, 130k and counting. My wife’s RAV4 has the UA80 and it’s also been flawless, 30k. Its main quirk is that it doesn’t like slow speeds.

Through work I’ve also had the opportunity to drive many rental Camrys with the UA80, spanning different model years. The earlier ones weren’t as smooth, but the newer ones were much better. None behaved like anything was wrong with them in my experience.

I could see this being an issue with off-road use.

Let me rephrase, it doesn’t like slower speeds. Anywhere from 10-25mph if you’re light on the throttle you can feel what feels like slippage. But given it’s a characteristic of every UA80 I’ve driven, except when pared to the 2GR, I’d say it’s designed that way. There’s a great write up on the UA80 somewhere that made sense to me on why it had its quirks. I just can’t remember where I saw it.

But now on the truly slow speed side of things, I want to say there have been reports of high temp warnings while crawling in the Tacos. Toyota needs to bring the trans coolers back across the BOF vehicles.

as much as that would be nice, they won't Too few users would benefit from it for them to justify adding it across the platform or even make it a part of a package. As much as people are glad the TNGA-F has more torque for towing and such, the percentage of people actually towing or slow speed off road crawling will be too low to make it worth toyota's time and money.

Opinions outpace actual complaints at a 1,000,000 : 1 ratio, and so far all that has been confirmed is: Don’t buy a Tundra.

There’s always a chance for early bugs, but nobody corrects that stuff better than Toyota (see:Tacoma). So hang out a few months, get a nice discount, and enjoy your Gen6 4Runner.
