Nothing wrong with wanting the 6th gen ;p). I may want one too in the distant future, I just don't need one right now. The seat folding / loss of usable cargo space was a deal breaker in my case because I use it for work occasionally. Upsetting really that a bigger, heavier SUV would have less usable interior space. That and the harsh ride and cheap plastics that reviewers seem to universally complain about. I plan on keeping this for a decade+ so it must tick all of my needs boxes before I can get to the wants.

We just got ours last week and the seat folding thing is a real head scratcher. We have owned many suv's over the years and they have all folded flat. Even the Murano we just traded did.

It really is strange. And also the way it blocks access from the rear passenger doors.

This entire thread is so familiar to me. I've had various Jeeps... Wranglers, Cherokees, etc. for the past 30-40 years. Whenever Jeep changed ANYTHING the hard core Jeepers would complain and brag about how the last model, or model before, etc. was so much better than the new one that they'd drive their current model until hll froze over rather than buy the newer one. You'd thought the world had ended when Jeep switched from the I-6 to the V-6. No matter that it had an extra 100 HP and got 50% better mileage.

My prediction is that in a few years, when Toyota comes out with a Gen 7, the hard cores will be talking about how great the Gen 6 is and they'll keep it forever. LOL!!!

Newsflash: Everything changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes not, but rest assured, every model of every vehicle is going to change over time. You may not like it but you'll have to get used to it.

BTW, I bought my first Toyota ever, the '25 4runner, Hybrid, a couple of months ago after renting one on vacation. I like it. Mileage is about 22-23 town or hwy. Quiet, quick/responsive, smooth running. Very solid and made in Japan.

There it is folks, ChatGPT can't come up with a better summary of the typical 6th gen buyer.

"They make for excellent on-road rentals!"

I would only add that since about 99%+ of the total miles that gets put on every 4runner are on surface streets, that's a reasonable summary. As a matter of fact, I'd speculate that the majority of 4runners never see anything but hard pavement. But don't fret, the same goes for Jeeps, Broncos, etc.

Well then that does it, clearly it's the 4RUnner that must be ever more road focused since Toyota makes no other SUVs for pavement use, none.

And Wranglers and Broncos both offer 2 door manual versions.

I wonder what the percentage of 6th gen owners are also first time 4Runner owners? I bet it’s pretty high.

Says who? You? And no, I don't have to get used to it. I'm an old geezer too, and I am done buying cars. Keeping what I have.

    LOL!!!

There's nobody around here that would like to keep their flip-phone and non-computerized cars more than me but time will come and you'll be dragged kicking and screaming into an unwelcome future.

BTW, you'll be royally screwed if/when some illegal ignores a stop sign and t-bones your car, like what happened to me, and you're faced with the prospect of buying something modern.

Now excuse me, there's kids on my lawn that I have to go yell at!

The 6th Gen looks great to me but I'm going to keep my 5th Gen for a while mainly because I'm sure I'd regret selling it.
