I bought mine in November for $36k. 2022 TRD Off-Road Base with 69k miles, one owner, clean carfax. Used 4Runner resale values are crazy, but in the end I got what I wanted. So far, it's been great.

Face it, you are never moving on from a 4runner

Three years later you are still in the 2014 SR5 closing or perhaps past 200k miles. Now you are talking about being pampered in an LX570? LOL.

Eh, it's only money. Keeping the rig flat on twisty mountain roads is worth it.

Actually, I have been in a 4runner for a very long time. Touching 220k and it's in pristine condition.
However, I did mention somewhere that I am holding onto the 4runner because at the time, the LC200 was way over my budget. It is even more unattainable now for an all cash sale which is the only way I prefer buying vehicles.
I don't do debt for depreciating assets.
Hence, the focus shifted to LX570 this year. Same car, just a lower point to entry.
The search has just begun and not actively at that. When buying used and not in a hurry, one has the luxury to wait for the right one to come by. Till then the 4runner chugs along just fine.

Prices have been on a wild ride with everything the last ten years. If I had a time machine and a few bucks....
    Anyway.
    I paid $36,000 for my new 2018 SR5 Premium 4WD.
    I paid $37,000 for my new 2020 SR5 Premium 4WD.
I paid $44,000 for my new 2021 SR5 Premium (Sticker price, at the height of the chip shortage when most dealers were adding $5,000 just because they could.)
I paid $50,000 for my 2024 TRD Off Road Premium, used but just barely (He only had 500 miles)

Why did you replace your 4Runner so often?

That's a pre-facelift model. But genuinely very low miles for a 12 year old car. Unlike the 4runner, no one is buying these so they all need price adjustments.
I am only focussing on the updated model that came out in 2016 onwards.

You only want 10 year old luxury not 12 year old luxury?

That’s only $8.5K less than I paid for the same vehicle new 9 years ago. That’s wild.

2nd generation Tundra (2007-2021) pricing is also off the chain hook for the same reasons. 5+ yr old trucks with 50k miles selling over original MSRP.

Yes! I only want the 2016-2021 model years and more specifically the 2018+ with the updated 8 Speed transmission mapping.
I would love to find me a 2021 in Nori Green but they are rarer than the 10-13 Trail 4runner and excruciatingly expensive.

    Not

Nothing wrong with wanting a specific model / make or particular year because it has the goodies you want!!

i bought my 22 at the absolute worst time - covid. VERY limited inventory and i had to make a move because my 2011 Honda Pilot was giving me issues. If I remember correctly, I paid 42k. I was totally pissed but I had to make a move. I've invested about 9k into mods. I maintain the hell out of it and now its a game to me. I want to get 300k+ miles. It currently has 98k miles on it. Just dropped it off at the dealership to get a differential seal installed. Grace of God its under the 7/100k powertain warranty. Ill let you guys know what it would have cost. When i dropped it off the service dude said, Ok Im going to have a master technician check the vehicle and that will be $209. I literally said WTF? Im like, nah dude this is under warranty. PLUS i freaking told you what it is....it is a differential seal leaking.

Pricing of 5th gen’s right now seems to be near it was at when production was ending, high. Rewind 4-6 months ago and market was 10% less. Which sucks because I’m contemplating adding a 24, but not at msrp and 2 years old.

yup the original sticker shows the previous owner paid $43k in 2017 with a few add ons (sun roof, sliding rear tray, xp package, rock rails, etc).

That's what I was saying. There will always be a reason why THAT one is not the right one. Toyota sold less than 30k of 2016-2021 MY LXs so our friend here is going to be waxing poetic about the unicorn LX570 for decades to come.

It's certainly a choice for someone to drive a 12 year old 220k base trim 4runner every day for "a long time" while pining for that RIGHT ONE LX570 to come along, all the while spending his days on a 4runner forums talking about how J200 LC is better than 4runners. LOL.

The short answer is because I'm an idiot. But if you want the longer one...
The first one, because I am married to a snob who hates them, so I got a Lexus, and regretted it so badly that I ordered my second 4Runner two business days after trading the first one in. Let me tell you, it hurts to trade in a car when its only a month old.
The second one, because I got $5,000 more for my trade in after two years than I had paid for it, and I thought, well what fool wouldn't do that?
The third one because I was on the wait list for the new Land Cruiser, and one of my neighbors was in the market for a 4Runner and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. (Subsequently, I decided I did NOT want the Land Cruiser, and had a year and something long "fling" with a Lexus GX460, which was a very fine vehicle but just didn't feel "like home".
This fourth one, if you'll bear the long story, I will keep a good long time. One night last fall, my mom and I were texting. She jokingly sent me the link to a very expensive piece of jewelry and quipped "Add this to my Christmas list" I told her I'd get her that if she got me a new 4Runner, and I'd really prefer a white one this time. That turned out to be our last conversation, because later that day, she had a massive brain bleed and died. No warning it was coming. So I used my inheritance to get the white 4Runner I asked her for.

Yes to a reasonably priced low mileage 5th gen 4Runner. No to the Lambo.
