I’m looking at what’s available for sale for 5th gen’s around here and the pricing is crazy. Almost as high as some 6th gen’s. What did you guys pay for yours?

That first one SR5P for 44k, ouch, I think that's the price when it was new.

Just bought my wife a 2023 40th Anniversary Edition that was CPO. Definitely paid more than I would have liked for it. Its original MSRP when new was $49K and we bought it for $46k. I traded my 2025 Tacoma for it-which held its value ok too (MRSP of $47k, bought for $40k and traded back in nearly a year later to the same dealer for $40,500).
I think the 5th gen will go down as the best 4runner in the end. The build quality and reliability are hard to come by today, even from other Toyotas. The 2.4 turbo 4 and 8 speed in the 6th gen and 4th gen Taco is super smooth and punchy, much more modern-but the overall package of these current gen trucks just seems cheaper and less durable. I was willing to pay for a clean CPO 5th gen over a new 6th gen and a lot of dealers are betting on folks doing the same...

That is absurd pricing for a 5th Gen. Looking at these since the LC200 is way over my budget. This flagship Lexus is on another level compared to the 4runner. There are more deals to be had on these. And this will last as long if not longer than the 5th Gen.

My 2013 SR5 4x4 with a bunch of add ons was sticker at 32k new, I got it for I believe 28k back in 2012. Fast forward to November of 2023 when I bought my ORP and had sticker shock. Mine was sticker at 57k with almost no dealer add-ons, but has KDSS. Of course that's when the whole crush of people were starting to buy the last of the 5th gens. I was "happy" to get mine for 52 and got 17 on trade for my 2013. Kicking myself for not trading on a new 2021 during the pandemic, could have gotten that for my trade plus 7k. Dumb, dumb, dumb for not doing that. But now with my limited miles (6k a year, wfh) and as I'm 55, this thing should last until I decide to stop driving. Unless the KDSS does something dumb, that's the one thing I did not research well enough prior to purchase. Hopefully by then someone has a decent KDSS delete solution.

My dealer reached out and offered me what I paid for mine three years ago. It would be tempting if they made anything I would want to buy.

^^^ Yeah I've had the same "conversations". Too bad they don't have anything I would be willing to trade for, but good to know these definitely hold their value.

At least my last deal worked out. I sold my 2020 Tacoma privately in 2023, for $5K CAD ($3,500 USD) less than I paid for it.

I bought my 2023 TRD ORP brand new. Had the TRD wheels, YAKIMA roof basket, side step bars as the options along with “other” port installed options. I live in the GULF STATES TOYOTA region. They load a lot “stuff” on their vehicles.

    Paid $51,000 TT&L

    Appears they hold their value.

CarMAX Is offering what mine costed new right now.

But like you, nothing in Toyota's truck and suv line up right now remotely interests me. The GR Corolla looks interesting, the 86 is nice too.

Dang, this makes me feel great about my 2022 SR5. 73k miles, $28.3 asking price. OTD for just over $31k

How is spending more money on something that is much older and has much more miles a good idea?

I don’t want anything with KDSS. Is there an easy way to figure out which vehicles have it? It doesn’t seem like any dealers show any undercarriage photos.

    Almost the same story here.

Searched for probably two months for a CPO using Toyota and Costco (they help certain dealers move used cars as well). All I was seeing was the same high-mileage trucks which I did not want, etc. Started searching elsewhere, found a 2024 CPO at a Ford Dealer. Low miles, clean CarFax. Just over $48K plus tax OTD. Tax here is pretty much 9%.

Even the Ford salesman remarked that these V6 4Runners are in demand 'cause people don't want to be guinea pigs with a new engine.

I like the KDSS on mine, drives like a much lower riding SUV than it really is and GREAT articulation at low speeds for me.

If it ever goes out I am writing a blank check to get it repaired. They are limiting E-KDSS to the Lexus GX and then only the OT trim now so 6th gen 4Rs are SOL on the feature.

I have no complaints about the standard suspension on mine and don’t want to deal with having to repair KDSS when it breaks.

That is where perspective comes in. I am not spending more money. I am spending 45% less money on a top of a line product that is leaps and bounds above the 4runner. And if we talk about older, the 5th Gen came in 2010. This LX was introduced in 2016.
Realibility is the main thing that attracts people to the 5th Gen 4runner. The LX has that in spades with some to spare.
If I am spending 25-30k, sure the 4runner works. But over 45k for a used 3 year old 5th Gen is carnage.

Ok. Go for it. I’m personally not buying anything that’s 8 or 9 years old with 100K miles on it.

2016 LX was a face lift but the vast majority of its underpin goes back to the 2008 Model Year alongside the J200 LC.

And that front end is in itself, carnage.

Passing time till I move onto something better. I do have heated seats, sunroof and part time 4wd if it makes you feel better.
