So I recently Purchased a 2022 SR5 with 30k miles on it. I absolutely LOVE this 4Runner and I have some big plans for mods but I have never done anything like this. I don’t wanna waste money on the small stuff first so I’m gonna do the major stuff first. This will mainly be an everyday driver but I do have some off-road trails near my hunting camp I plan on hitting up. But I won’t be doing a ton of off-roading

LIFT- I’m looking at the Eibach stage 1 kit with Dobinson Control arms. Anyone running this set up? I don’t have a ton of money so I need some advice.

also, I wanna go bigger on wheels later but I don’t wanna risk putting too much strain on the engine and potentially hurting something down the line. Are 285 70r17’s too much? Honestly I don’t wanna have to deal with fitment issues. I don’t wanna do a body mount chop.

Long story short is I want a good raised aggressive look but I don’t wanna put too much strain on the engine. I’m open to all the advice I can get. Pretty new at all this.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Wait about 6 months before getting a lift. You'll be surprised at how capable, dependable and reliable the 4Runner is in stock form. You don't even need to go up in tire size. Stick with the stock size but get a more agressive look if you want to check the box for "Cool factor".

It's all about compromises. I agree with @Borracho Loco and the capability of the 4R in stock form. I think what you might be looking for is to get rid of the nose down rake? As many people do. You're really not going to gain anything in capability, and the rake is designed into the 4R for towing. When you put a load on the rear it levels it out. So, it seems that what you're talking about is purely aesthetics. The Eibach kit is solid, and it's going to be an improvement over stock suspension. Not even sure you're going to need UCAs.

I agree with @Borracho Loco as well.

The reason my lift went on right away was that I couldn't stand the nose dive when braking. I used Bilstein 5100s, Bilstein Rear springs and a couple small spacers (to get rid of the lean). I kept some of the factory rake but ended up needing UCAs to get caster in spec. All in about $1500 in parts.+ a couple alignments. Labor was all me. It's drives very well on road.

I just drove several trails in Moab and it did ok. I'm sure the added height saved me from a couple scrapes but the 5100s are not ideal for any serious offroading. Was a bit too harsh, even after airing down to 20-25psi.

If you're just talking about some dirt and gravel roads, drive it for a bit. The 4Runner will handle those in stock form without any issues. Probably a bit smoother than an entry level setup like mine.

I have a 22 sr5 with the eibach stage 1 lift. Absolutely love it. Been off roading in Texas ,AZ and Moab totally solid if you call eibach and get them through them and say you want them but would like a discount they will take 10% off.

Quick comment, airing down to 20 is not soft enough. 15-18 in Moab. My 2 Pennies

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    The rule of thumb is:

    Moderate Trails: 20 - 25 PSI
    Rocky/Mud Terrain: 15 - 20 PSI
    Sand/Snow: 12 - 15 PSI
Rough dirt roads: Reduce by 25% of the standard PSI.

As mentioned, @Borracho Loco is spot on. You don't need a lift or 285's for mild off-roading.

For a more aggressive look, a decent AT tire with an aggressive sidewall can make a huge difference. And, a stock 4Runner will get through a lot on decent tires.

If you're set on suspension and lifting, Eibach is a good choice based on the comments I've read.

If you're set on 285's, consider SL tires if you're not going to be playing in pointy rocks.

Depends on the tire and tire size. When I had stock size KO2's in LT/C, I'd start at 20-25 and adjust from there. With my 295's, I start at 15- 20 depending on the situation. I'll go down to 12 in some situations. But, I never went that low on stock size tires.

I'll be installing the Eibach pro lift kit which is just a set of lift springs. I will report back on here after install the difference in driving feel. I'm personally just looking for a slight lifted look and to get rid of the brake nose drive and perhaps a bit better handling since my area has roudabouts all over!
Here is the kit I ordered:
