I just bought a 2010 4Runner Limited with Nav. I am not able to hear audio on SiriusXM.
I removed the E7028 radio and all wires seem attached including the 2 antennas.
The satellite message is “loading, loading, no signal.”
How do I gain access the the separate satellite receiver so I can find the part number to match at the salvage yard?
For a test, can I just attach a separate SiriusXM antenna on the dash direct to the radio or do I need the satellite receiver to decode?

Not positive but I think you might need to have a subscription for it to be active...

I transferred my trial subscription from the 05 tundra I traded in and I paid the $15 fee to activate the 10 4Runner radio.
During troubleshooting with the SiriusXM rep, she said I should be able hear the one channel that broadcasts advertising for all of the channels even before I activated.
That’s why she thinks it’s a hardware problem - I started checking the used auto parts sources and I found radios for sale separate from satellite receiver boxes.
My next step might be to try to remove the glove compartment to see if that gives me access.

doh.... it is sounding like a hardware problem. Not fun
There are a few Audio experts here, hopefully they chime in.

Yes channel 1 plays continuously whether you have a current active subscription or not. If they detect a signal going to the radio probably the radio.

from the research I did, most sources say the oem radio is the complete device to decode the satellite signal? I was confused because there is a satellite receiver US $120 - $140 listed for 2010 4Runner from car-part.com.
used oem radios are $700-$1200 and more.
I'm half thinking, if the oem radio didn't last 9 years, 138k miles, why should I invest in another one?
I only hesitate going aftermarket because the backup camera image is very good, but am and fm is poor...
I need to have my airbag replaced under recall so I guess I will have to have the dealer check the signal.

You should always be able to hear channel 001 or 002 (its a constantly running advertisement for subscription service). At least, I think this is the case.

I guess you could try a separate satellite antenna if you have access to one. Check the connection on the other end to make sure it's okay.
