About to flush the brake fluid on my 22. I didnt know if anyone runs a certain brand that works well in the 4R or if I should just grab some Dot 3/4 from Oreillys

    • FMVSS No.116 DOT 3 or SAE J1703 brake fluid is what the manual calls for and is readily available. Would stick with that for what you are working on.

I use Prestone DOT3 from O'Reilly in both of my Toyotas. I keep a sealed bottle as a trail spare. Large 32oz size helps if you suffer a leak on the trail. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...restone-32-ounce-dot-3-brake-fluid/prs0/as401

I thought out trucks use Dot 4?

Supertech DOT3 is what I throw in.

DOT3 and DOT4 are compatible but have their differences.

I just checked the cap, you’re correct, it says 3 or 4.

    Owner's manual says DOT 3:

Toyota-branded brake fluid stocked at dealers in my region is DOT 3.

DOT 4 simply has a higher temp rating/boiling point. You can use either DOT 3 or 4. The more boutique/racing synthetic brands (MOTUL, StopTech, etc) usually only come in DOT 4.

DOT 3 and 4 are compatible. DOT 4 has a higher boiling point but can absorb water easier.

Keeping fresh brake fluid and bled (purged) calipers is probably more vital than brand of fluid. Our dry Western States climate makes brake systems easier to maintain due to less condensation and corrosion of calipers & their pins.
