Right!? The location is very close to my house, I mostly enjoy the public fsr’s. I do not enjoy the inevitable task ahead of me - cleaning out inside my door

Agreed. I would only do this to a DEDICATED off roader that I didn't really care about. In high school a friend of mine had an old Jeep. It had no radio, no a/c, no doors, no top and no carpet. BUT...it had 40" Super Swamper Tires. The paddle kind. Boy did we have fun in that Jeep.

We would take it to to the Florida Everglades or a mud-bog type area and fling up a lot of mud in it. The first time we took it out, we spent HOURS trying to get all the mud off. It was exhausting. It was also when we decided to rip the radio and carpet out of it.


Edit: Imagine if you took your 4Runner out and got it this muddy. You'd be cleaning up the mud for WEEKS!

 

You know, you don’t have to use AI. You could just do it the old fashioned way… go find a nice trail, fail to check the forecast, and have some fun anyways. Besides, adventure starts when things stop going as planned.

You’re not wrong, once your 4R ventures into mud, deep snow, water crossings, there’s rinsing required, some parts will never be virgin again (like inside frame rails).
Actually tho I have a lot of respect for dudes who keep their investment relatively stock, clean, and capable.
Where I’m from with rivers lakes and mountains in the backyard folks regularly take their trucks (and cars!) off the grid - mudding has been a thing all long as I can remember, rinse it off at the wand wash on the way back into town. I bought a 4Runner so I could join in on the regions 4wd fun. Heck, I missed the lions-share of the early 00’s fun before so many gates and boulders were added

California is not like the rest of us.

 

This is why.....policies there in CA are out of this world that drive refineries to shutdown. Once a place that used to do exploration and refine good products, now paying the highest price in the nation. Something has to give here. I don't get it.

Off roading in SC, anyone have any recommendations of other places on the east coast around VA to visit?

 

Peters mill run is a good trail.

 

Trying to get some last minute Christmas shopping done. Managed to snag a good parking space in front of a classic Coca-Cola mural.

 

Went out to Merus at Palo Duro canyon for the blue trail tour. Great way to see the canyon and have a spotter that knows the trail.

Niceeeeeeeee, just curious how you got in there I took the cement asphalt road off Highway eight but there were so many giant potholes. I didn’t even get halfway up the asphalt cement road. Did you get through those potholes or have they repaired it? I used to go there in my Jeep and freaking loved it

I took the asphalt cement road. Last time I went, I only got a mile or so in and didn't want to attempt a rough spot. We parked and hiked around a bit and left. From videos I've watched, the other way up is much harder, including a gate keeper called "Axle Breaker". Perhaps you've taken that way in your Jeep?

This time, I could tell the road had some work done to it. Might be an ongoing project as I saw some road work trucks sitting on the side of the road. Still a couple decent sized dips, but nothing a stock 4Runner would have an issue with. The hard(ish) part where I stopped before was completely smooth. Past that, there were some rough parts. You might remember the one downhill section (Gaia has it labled Caldwell's Crunch). I came over the small hill and may have said and expletive or two, wondering if I should back up and park. I made it down, landing on my skid plate pretty good once, but I chalk that up to poor line choice or some other driver error. I stopped shortly after that. We walked a bit further down and there was a short section that looked a bit challenging, but not like that hill.

I was nervous going back up, but the 4Runner made it with little issue, although I think I hit my skid plate going up too.

 

Did a big Borrego Springs area loop, starting up north a the Galleta Meadows sculptures, then Fonts Point and down to camp off Mortero Canyon/ Dos Cabezos.
