This is so cool! I've ridden and driven through Hanksville many times. How did I not know that was there? I need to add it to my list next time I drive Hwy 12 from Bryce. It reminds me of the lunar habitat that Steve Carell lives in during one of the Space Force episodes. I've posted the photo below before, but it's also from just outside Hanksville:

It's a yellow post site off Forest Rd 5S11 in Idyllwild, CA. The road can sometimes be rough but, while this pic was from a while back, I was there recently to backpack and 5S11 was in pretty good condition. Not sure what condition the road that leads to the yellow post sites is in, but the site in the picture was very close to the turnoff so should be no problem getting to it for any SUV/ CUV.

Yeah, there are lots of interesting sights out there. The Mars station is out on “Cow Dung Road” haha!
Also there is a dinosaur dig site a little further down the road.

Nice. I drove by there over the summer on our way to Capital Reef. I wish we had time to stop and explore it. It looks like a different planet out there.

My favorite time of year is coming up. Still a lot of people in the hills, mostly hunters and aspen tourons, but two weeks from now the mountains will be empty.

Monitor Pass, just south of Lake Tahoe. The aspens are really popping right now, because we haven't had any storms to knock off the leaves.

What brand front bumper is that? Looks like Dissent Offroad but they don't have a bar option. I'm really digging it, More clearance but not as extreme as losing 3/4 of the front end.

Completed section 3 and 4 of the WABDR this weekend. Weather was great Friday night and all day Saturday, with high winds and a little rain late Saturday night into early Sunday morning but the tent performed great.

The sunset Friday from the meadow we camped in was spectacular, and we had multiple bull elks bugling around us, with one 7x7 walking through camp. Sunrise Saturday was just as good as the sunset the night before. Really isn't anything better then a cold beer at sunset and a warm cup of coffee, on a cool fall morning in the mountains.
