My other car, Toyota actual calls for oil changes every 6 months. The last oil change I think I only had about 1600km on that oil lol

For the 4Runner I change the oil about every 6 months regardless of mileage because it does a lot of short trips which would cause it to fall under the severe service interval.

True. But. I’ve pointed out more than once this puzzling fact: in canada and the states they both say change your oil after 5k…but canada is 5000kms which only equals 3100 miles…and simultaneously yankees are also told change oil after 5000, miles - that’s over 8000kms.
    Make it make sense.

I think I get it…Canada is robbing us, fooling citizens to change oil after what is in reality only 3100 miles.

But one highway drive of 30+ miles erases all the contaminant build up from all those short trips. So instead of changing the oil, just take a 30 mile Sunday drive occasionally and then change it at 7.5k, ignore the date. I have vehicles that go over 2 years between oil changes

I did a quick google of this. It appears your correct. that is quite ridiculous. I also saw a chart saying if you drive like a regular person, change at 5000 kilometers, but if you fall into the severe duty category, your OCI.....was....wait for it... exactly the same...5000 kilometers

One thing is for sure, no one can or will have an accurate way to measure time against miles traveled.
Miles is an accurate way to determine the intervals of changing a vehicles oil.
Time is good for changing your smoke detector batteries and baking banana bread, which I just pulled out of the oven.

I have always done 10k using synthetic Mobil 1 5w-30 and filter every 5k. I would only do that with synthetic. You won't have any engine sludge ever with synthetic. I use high mileage because I am. Synthetic gets darker over time which means it's working. Never had a 4runner use oil. Yet.

You can actually wait 30k miles. That’s what the W-30 stands for. Wait 30.

The answer is yes. A fake oil change interval thread started as a joke will turn into an actual OCI thread all by itself.
