Be honest. How many of you had their blood pressure go up just reading the subject line. Mine went up just typing the subject line.

Here's a good one for you all, since I'm visiting family for Thanksgiving.

My dad is a firm believer in high mileage oil, to the point where he checks the oil at 10,000, and if it still looks good, lets it go another 5,000 miles. I don't know if he ever pushes it to 20k, but I don't know the last time he changed it at 10k.

Gives me confidence that whatever we do here will be plenty...

(149,000 miles on that Camry and runs like new, knock on wood). Probably helps that it's the hybrid, and therefore doesn't idle.

If the turkey sees its shadow, long winter, change at 5k, otherwise 10k.

Since the dipstick is going the way of the dodo, be thankful of the dipstick you have and maximize its usage - extract the oil from the dipstick tube instead of draining the pan.

With how analytics are used in computer software-land I wouldn’t be surprised if someday we’re repeatedly using the dipstick to trigger the sensor when the metrics are sent to the mothership to get those stupid internal usage numbers up and safer from stupid numbers-focused management.

Mozilla has done this before with Firefox, claiming low usage numbers from analytics reporting as a reason to remove a feature - of course it’s more likely to be used by those who turn off analytics.

This effectively shifts some blame/responsibility from the company to the users too, another perk.

“Oh, you disabled your DCM? It looks like low usage numbers to us, goodbye 4L!”

Of course this is not reality today and there isn’t a dipstick-installed sensor but the thinking can be applied elsewhere.

    Cheers everyone.

Enough about oil. I really like the look of those little ladders. Is it okay to get one? Even if I don’t have a roof rack?

I just thought I’d ask, as @morfdq has decreed that we’re doing April fools on Thanksgiving.
