Use Mobil 1 0W20. Costco regularly has on sale for $27 for 6 quarts. Had on sale once for $22.95. Norm is $37.95.
Have heard good reviews of the Costco oil also. Two 5qt jugs for $22

I have always done my own oil changes and with a new vehicle under warranty I use OEM filters and I have been told Toyota uses mobile one and as mentioned already 0W-20 and 6.6 quarts. Keep your receipts.

Kirkland oil here, after a long looong read.
They are all made pretty much by Warren.
Or even consider the Amazon oil; guess who makes that? That's right, Warren !
The amazon is actually SN plus rated whereas the Mobile 1 is SN, but this is just water under the bridge.
Since these "new" brands meed or exceed all standards, I am getting the Costco one. Our engines are not exactly a Swiss watch.

Get the cheapest brand you can find in the proper viscosity. Brand doesn't matter. I use Walmarts super tech brand often

Bigger A/T LT Tires, Slight Lift, Sliders, Rack, Lights, etc.
This info is always in the Vehicle Owner's Manual.

Toyota cannot require you to use them for maintenance. Keep reasonable proof (oil / filter purchase receipts and maybe a printed photograph of odometer next to receipt) that you've changed the oil at the specified intervals and you should be fine regarding the warranty.

Anything that meets the spec in the owner's manual and is on sale. :D

And +1 on oem Toyota oil filters.

You can try looking for various DIY rebates online for Mobil 1, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell Gas Truck, etc.

I've used this Havoline before, and won't hesitate to use it again. If you buy 2 or more boxes you'll get free shipping.:

Fact is most people get hooked on a particular oil according to the cool creative commercials they run. I've been running Wally Mart branded oil in my Honda D.D. for years now 180,000 miles and I can't kill the thing. Consistently uses about 3/4 of a quart between changes for like two years now but Honda's are notorious for taking oil. I've run "tests" switching between various "elite" brands and a few of them actually used more oi in between changes than the "no-name" stuff go figure...

^ The oil may be consumed more, but may also be protecting more. Just a thought...

I've run a few samples through Blackstone.. I do like higher quality oils but these days it's not about the brand name.. one must go above and beyond to the 'net to find which oils are superior. The certifications on the back can help some, too.

At the end of the day, the 4Runner's motor probably isn't too picky.. it isn't highly/tightly tuned like a BMW M3 or Corvette ZR1. The redline is like 4000 RPM for gosh sake lol. You could probably lube it with spit.

    Redli

The redline is 6k. A car will never fail as a result of the wrong brand of oil.

In addition to the OP, like the screws on my guns' red dots and scopes, I like to torque them for peace of mind...

What are the torque settings on the drain plug, oil filter, and the oil filter plug?

    Thanks

Did that Fumoto fit? I thought the oem drain plug was M12-1.25.
