My 06 Tacoma Pre-Runner TRD Off-Road would remind me every 5,000 miles that I needed to change my oil. My new 2024 4Runner SR5 does not have that reminder to change my oil, not that I can see. No "Service Needed" icon that I see, now about 150 miles past 5,000 oil change mark. Is there some magic button or setting I need to do?

Too many to list & Worth every penny!
That’s because the oil change interval is 10,000 miles as per Toyota.
You can split that oil change interval as many do.
Mine is a 21 and I get the reminders at every 5K.

Soak in the ease of old school and painters tape the change mileage in the windshield corner. Or as someone here suggested, use trip B for oil tracking.

I understand your concern. Our 2020 has a little "oil change sticker" in the upper corner of the windshield with the next mileage we have to change oil, then when we change the oil, we put a new sticker up there with the updated mileage, works slick. Can't the service interval be changed via the "settings" menu ?

My '24 has the reminder starting with <500 miles to the next oil change. It pops up on the center multi-information display when you first start the truck: "Oil Maintenance Required Soon" with <500 miles to go and then "Oil Maintenance Required" at the 5000 mile mark. As far as I know, this reminder can not be turned off altogether, only reset. There's no separate "Maint Req'd" light like your 2nd gen Taco had.

If your 4Runner has "premium audio" (whatever that is, but it's not the JBL system) you can set reminders in the head unit as well but those are separate from the multi-information display reminder.

EDIT: My mistake, the yellow triangle ! should also display next to the speedometer when the 5000 mile mark is reached. Look at pages 488 - 492 in the owner's manual.

I do my own oil and filter changes at home on my T4R. I’m using the Trip B tripometer for my 5,000 mile oil change reminder.

However, since purchasing my T4R in November 2023, I find that I’m hitting the 6 month time change limit well before the 5,000 mile limit. So, I’m changing oil and filter based on time elapsed, not mileage. I post a 6 month oil change reminder on my appointment calendar on my cell phone.

So far, the most miles I’ve run up in a 6 month period is 4,355 miles. So, 6 month change intervals it is for me. I’m retired, so just not putting miles on very fast, not having to drive to work 5 days a week. Prior to retiring, I was driving 48 mikes round trip each day, 5 days a week, to and from work, but that was with my now ex 2006 Tundra.

If wifey and I take a vacation road trip, we either use her RAV4, or, rent a rental car.

As for her RAV4’s oil changes, I take it to our Toyota dealer. It’s too low for me to crawl under, and I sure as hell am not going to risk trying to jack it up to get under it.

Does anybody know how to reset the reminder? Reminder keeps showing up every time I start it up. I just got my oil changed a couple of days ago.

Probably reset at some point by accident. Just reset it again if you had the service done.

Who needs a sticker to tell you that your next oil change is at 15k, 20k, 25k, etc? Toyota makes it easy by doing everything on a 5k multiple schedule

If you have push button start:

    1. Foot off brake, press start button twice to turn truck "on" but not running.
    2. Switch to Trip A with the trip button in the speedometer.
    3. Push start button to turn truck off.
    4. Push and hold the trip reset button while then pressing the start button twice to turn truck on, again foot off brake.
    5. The "Resetting" message should display on the multi-information display. When the progress bar fills up and disappears, let go of the trip reset button.

That's it. If you have a key:

    1. Insert key, turn two clicks to "on" position, do not start the truck.
    2. Switch to Trip A with the trip button in the speedometer.
    3. Turn the truck back off.
    4. Hold the trip button and turn the key to "on", again don't start the truck.
    5. The "Resetting" message should display on the multi-information display. When the progress bar fills up and disappears, let go of the trip reset button.

My 2018 SR5 maintenance reminder comes on for a brief moment at start up at 4500 miles.
Remains on at start up once it hits 5000 miles, giving you 500 miles to of leeway to service the vehicle.

Could have sworn we changed ours in the menu somehow, we have seen the oil change reminder come up on the dash, but still look at the little oil change sticker.

I don't recall ever seeing any settings regarding the oil maintenance reminder in the gauge cluster multi-information display menu. There may be settings adjustable through something like Carista or Techstream but I don't recall anything when I had the full version of Carista. Not sure I looked though, to be honest.

If you have a 2020+ head unit, you can definitely set separate reminders in the head unit if you have "premium audio." The head unit reminders are fully independent though and will only remind you on the head unit itself. I have my "personal" menu reminders in the HU set up to remind me to do 15K mile drive shaft service and 30K mile diff/transfer case service. Have a look at pages 70-71 in the Accessories, Audio, and Navigation manual, which is separate from the owner's manual.

I'm so use to changing my conventional oil in my old 06 Tacoma Pre-Runner V6 that my mind keeps thinking I have to do the same with my 2024 4Runner using synthetic. 5,000 service for tire rotation and whatnot still stands....but, I'm still going to ask my Service Writer if there is a reminder for that scheduled service. And not the mini sticker up in my left hand corner of the windshield that at age 72 I sure as hell can't read!

I just got a used 2016 4Runner and I was wondering the same thing. I have a 2006 Highlander Sport as well and the “maintenance required” light starts flashing before oil change at 5k is due then when it is actually time, the light will just stay on. I was wondering if my 4Runner will do that too? The owners Manuel says change oil at 10k but I think I’d like to stay on 5k schedule. My husband does maintenance on our vehicles but from what I was reading on my runner that looks like a whole new and difficult process!

Easiest thing to do to keep track of when to change your oil is set your trip "A" or "B". Reset it to 0 when you change the oil.

For me, the easiest way to remember is to change it every September. I may have put on another 3500 miles by then.

I bought my OR new in September 2019, and just looked at the odometer - 19,002.

I like the Trip A or B idea, though. I think I'll reset Trip B this oil change - I don't use it for anything else.
