I have a 2005 SR5 4x4 4Runner that I absolutely love. However, two kids and a dog are making it seem a bit small. I am thinking of a newer 4x4 Tundra and wanted to see if you have any thoughts.

We mainly ski and fish, so beyond a few bumpy roads, no serious off road.

    Thanks all.

All depends on what you need.

I went from Tundra to 4R. I mainly go fishing and I can carry the same stuff in the 4R than the Tundra. I had a camper on it anyways.

Besides the crap MPG I loved the Tundra just didn't need something as big anymore.

I’m doing the opposite. Moving from a tundra to a 4Runner. The tundra is an awesome truck. Don’t expect good MPG numbers. But if you get a crewmax you’ll have plenty of interior room.

For my needs I no longer need a truck. No longer living in a desert town so need to haul toys around and stuff. It became my daily driver and at 12 MPG I couldn’t do it. A great vehicle though. Just got done driving it across the nation from California to New York. Not a single issue.

I loved my tundra. Crewmax has TONS of room.

Get the 5.7L is my only recommendation.

Thanks guys! To be honest, my Runner only gets around 15MPG around town, so it wouldn't be that much of a difference. All super helpful info!

The tundra is great truck I have zero complaints. If you keep your tundra stock you’ll get around 15 city.

They are really good trucks. I had a 2008 crewmax and had to get rid of it due to a divorce but I loved the thing. The only drawback to it is the gas mileage but it's a truck so.

Same here as the others, went from Tundra to 4R. Not because I didnt love my Tundra, I did. Just decided I could probably do the same stuff with the 4R for cheaper.

Crewmax has a ton of rear seat room. Would you be putting the dog in the bed?

I had a '12 Crewmax, then picked up a '15 Tacoma DoubleCab a few years later. The Crewmax is a big truck and beyond what we needed. I really liked it, though. The Tacoma was nice, but tight backseat for adults, and we only used the bed for stuff I can throw in the back of an SUV. I had a locking bedcover on there. If you need more room, but don't need the bed, what about a Sequoia?

@Huzer21 The kids and dog would be in the cab...so I think the CrewMax would be my best bet. Sequoia would be fine, I guess I just like the look of the Tundra better. We mainly do long road trips in the winter to Mammoth and Park City, so I need all the bodies inside.

I have had my 4Runner for 10 years and will likely have it another 10...I feel like I am just getting bored of it, which is dumb. Maybe I just need to do more mods : )
