The wife's 02 4runners engine just blew. Im going to replace the old engine with a UZ V8. Anyone recommend a 1uz or a 2uz? And does that engine bolt directly to the original trans. I've never done this before so all help is welcome. Thank you.

If you've never done an engine swap before, I'd highly recommend bolting in the exact same engine you're replacing.

Swapping in a 1UZ, the mounts are not going to line up. You haven't given too much of your back ground, but unless you're a fabricator or have access to a shop, it'll be a job including harnesses and ECU/TCU needing to be rewired. It won't be a direct bolt in, and in a quick search I didn't see any swap kits available (there may be with more complete search).

I do have access to a shop and a guy that has built cars for a long time helping me. Ill be using a 2uz fe and I'm trying to figure out if it will bolt up to the trans or if there is an adapter made for this swap.

The mounts/ bolt holes, flywheel, etc are not going to mount up perfectly. Maybe someone will chime in it an adapter plate exists.

Welcome from Wisconsin! There used to be a company called Trans-Dapt that made all kinds of adapter plates/kits, not sure if they are still around. So much easier to replace with the exact engine... unless you guys want a challenge! Good luck and show us you're progress, thanx.
