I've been on social media ever since I got my Facebook invite when it was limited to a few universities in the 2nd or 3rd round of expansion, and I got my gmail address back when you needed an invite to get one.

I don't care for SM car groups.

I hear you. I’ve been on forums of this style since the mid/late 90s. Never got in to Facebook at all.

I had an AOL email address :D

First one was a newly formed (at the time) guitar forum, FDP, Fender Discussion Page. Then Harmony Central shortly after that. Then Tundra Solutions...

My first vehicle “forum” was a Unix mailing list for KLR-650s since I had just bought one.

I finally sold that mighty KLR the year I bought the 4runner. The proceeds went into my sliders lol.

I wonder if that unix list is still going haha.

Lovely! I have the 2005 black/red Gen 1 and then a 2011 Gen 2. Infact just did a complete service on the 11' since it was sitting for over 5 years.
I have extensively ridden the Gen 3, and did a 2000 mile road trip back when it was launched. Loved the instrumentation of the Gen 3 . I had hoped they would bump the power upto 200 hp, like all the 1000ccs, but alas.
But again, I am getting to old for doing 150mph plus rides so got myself a 1200GS few years ago. Still have the Busa and will always hold onto it.

    Yeah!! Busa brotherrrrs lol

I'm working on amassing parts to see if I can get it over 200hp. Seems 190-195 to the wheel is easy with simple bolt ons.

Sometimes I ask myself why, and then I remember logic doesn't make any horsepower.

I have touched 185mph multiple times with a little tail wind on my Gen 2. Running a flashed ECU with full T force Titanium exhausts with a custom map. So no fuel soft or hard cuts.
I am assuming Brocks still makes pipes for these things. They make the most bolt on power but God they are ugly.

That kinda speed is where the dotted lines become solid for sure haha

Yeah Brocks still makes pipes for em', but youre right they're ugly. Moore Mafia pushes them hard but I have my suspicions that they have a partnership.

I went with a Akrapovic full system. The look and sound was what I was going for. I also didn't want to be that neighbor with a Brock's shorty. Ordered direct from Slovenia so after tariffs should be about $1800.

Also kinda funny, called Customs and they were 0% helpful telling me anything about tariff cost. They referred me to the tax code book. :bananadead:

Can't go wrong with an Akrapovic! Quite, light and what quality.
That's hilarious with the import duty!

Here's something for ya. I was driving home yesterday in my 2nd gen and the check engine light came on randomly. A few seconds later it went out. Hasn't come on since. Everything looked good. Hopefully a weird, one off thing.:)

I've been lurking there but haven't made an account. Probably about time I do. The site definitely saved me from getting some other brand's full exhaust systems that apparently don't fit very well.

Do you remember when this was? I mentioned to someone about facebook being around since the late 90s and I was corrected and told it was mid 2000s.

I thought I was going crazy, but I for sure thought I remember back in my college days, either early 90s, or at least by 97. I remember being highly encouraged by staff to sign up, but I thought it was kinda silly to be uploading your picture and info into databases for no compelling reason. Even back then I thought it was a pretty dumb idea.

Around 2004 or 2005. At first they marketed it as "Friendster" for "elite university" students and once they got the hype they rapidly expanded to anyone with a .edu email address then open to anyone. They fished a lot of valuable data with the university move.

Not really, same as always. Posts every day and easy to get responses. Definitely not a slow Forum like the other 4Runner forum where it can go days before there is any content.

Not many 6th gens sold yet to get people needing questions answered.

Then what the heck was I told to sign up for? Geez, I can’t be old enough to be making up memories that don’t exist, can I? Don’t answer that :p

I was basically done with uni by 2000. Was it maybe that friendster acquired some sort nascent facebook instead of just changing names? I thought I remember the commercials to the Zuck movie they did a while back where he was in some sort of competition with another tech bro and were trying to steal each other’s shit.

I’d research it on the internet but it’s been re-written by chatbots.:annoyed:

1997 was still dial up era so it had to be 56k friendly to be hyped up. The ones I can recall were things like Classmates.com or Livejournal that were driven by hypertext and html so it didn't take hours to load on a dial up modem.

Facebook and the likes were only viable by early 2000s when T1 lines became common in dorms due to the demand for bandwidth to load images.

Yes, for sure these memories are embedded in dial up days (That wasn’t even that long ago for an old guy like me lol). The “facebook” I’m recalling was definitley more of a directory, but the schtick to the whole thing is that you were required to upload your face…go figure. The rest of the info was basically just your directory info and demographic info…maybe something about your favorite color, if you were a tree what type of tree would you be…shit like that. It was nothing like your grandpa posting about some chemtrails and arguing with your uncle over it.

T1 lines for facebook to be viable…sheesh, that means you must be a young whipersnapper :p

I have to admit, I miss websites from dial up days…I used to nerd out with all sorts of tech stuff. pictures were special and usually mattered. The rest was actual honest to goodness writing that communicated actual information.

I sound like the grandpa waxing lyrical about radio broadcasts and how you had to imagine the pictures when you heard the radio announcer
