Is it me or are we experiencing a slow down on content and site activity:quickdraw:? This site has been primarely a 5th gen driven content but of course the other Gens have their base as well. The 6th Geners are not here which tells me they are probably first time Yota buyers. Are you guys feeling the same or we just ran out of content?

There's only so many things to discuss that's 4Runner-specific/vaguely relevant.

Being split between two sites probably doesn't help, Reddit, probably Facebook Groups have taken a big chunk out of traditional forums but that's been the case for over a decade.

Not like the 6th gen has a host of common problems that need figuring out either since that'll certainly send people looking and participating.

I believe Bob (site owner) has a 6th gen specific site for the turdo 4 poopers. This site always seemed to be a 5th gen dominant.

Current topic on the FB groups is fill up cost like if it matters what a guy in FL pays when I'm in CA. Apparently we can't do math either. 21 X $5.29 a gallon = FB post

I dunno... Content flow seems pretty good to me. We sure don't need more threads about tires or who makes the best crankcase oil.

We could always put out another BOLO for Borracho Loco. Maybe he'll return home and get things moving again.

Might just be me, but it seems there are more "what do I do about problem X" from the 10+ year old 5th gen owners of late. Battery failing, weird electrical issues, error codes showing up, etc.

You might be right. I'm gonna start a thread on what size tires I can do without rubbing.

I joke. This is the best 4Runner group out of all the ones I've been in these many years.

The other 4Runner website, T4R.org, saw a decline prior to 2021. I hope this doesn’t happen here as well.
There should always be subjects to discuss, it just takes members that are willing to participate. That’s the only thing that’ll keep this forum site alive.
I don’t think that should be too hard to do.

I've been too busy riding the BUSA to post lately.

I'll apologize now that this will be my personality for the foreseeable future. Probably until the Greenlane Offroad rear bumper becomes available for the 5th Gen 4Runners.

I’m still FNG status, but I think this site is pretty damn good.

After 15 years of production, I can’t think of much that wouldn’t be figured out by now. It took about two weeks on here to get the plans for my SR5 laid out, now it’s just a matter of spare cash that doesn’t go to the SXS, the RV, the dirtbike or the diesel pickup. Or the daughters wedding, or the HS senior graduation, or next year’s HS graduation, or…

    First world problems..

That used to be my main site but something happened a few years age that made it annoying to use and glitchy. Found this site and feel it is a better experience.

Most participated in threads are off topic

Us owners should be out driving our rigs. Spending time here is interesting reading and more rarely showing your knowledge. But reliable vehicles don't need much repairing and a smart search will find answers already posted.
I suspect there will be growing question volume for the Toyota "safety sense" gizmos as they age.

It’s natural for traffic to wane now that there are no new 4 Runners being built.

As to Turd’s comment? I’ve seen sniping kill online communities before. It almost killed Pirate 4x4 back in the day. But while I think there’s been an increase in the amount of general mockery on this board lately, I wouldn’t say it’s risen to the extent that it threatens to kill the board. Although with Borracho Loco jumping ship, and CatBrown going insane, we could be inching in that direction.

    Woof, SR5 Limited too.

A lot of online communities are afflicted by children (the definition is loose here) looking to just get in a one-up, zinger or just not comprehend nuance which doesn't help. No, stating 6th gen benefits doesn't mean I have to go marry one, blah blah, etc. but that isn't really a recent phenomenon. (it was called "Summer Reddit" on reddit, there's a lot of botting whether by folks who don't know better or literal bots on Instagram so not engaging there is usually for the better.)

I'm sure folks have a lot of non-4Runner things on the mind these days anyway. Current events are not rosy and I have so many (correct ;)) opinions on so many things.

I'm not planning to tinker with the 4Runner much or hit the trail in the near future anyway, it's all other DIY things but hey I'm sure I'll get plenty of helpful opinions in Off-Topic if a mowing question comes up. It may quiet down a bit but I'm sure we'll still be useful in more ways as Google search decays and SEO companies learn to tinker with LLM AI output.

Edit: I still pop into forums I no longer frequent every once in a blue moon - I may have nothing left for me there normally, but I don't know when I can come in handy!

The organization of forums is what keeps me coming back. But I also grew up with forums and not so much conversing with people on social media platforms. I have a FB account but don't go on it, how does a FB 'group' organize by vehicle generation and subtopics? Genuinely curious.

I'm pretty out-of-date (by a few years for sure) but I'm pretty sure they don't. The group itself is the specific vehicle and otherwise you go ham in it.

Same with Discord, it's a shame seeing so many communities gated in a proprietary service that doesn't really handle threads well.

That seems terrible, so you could potentially belong to tons of different 'groups' to discuss varying topics about a single platform? This site for instance, everything is here, one site, different links within the site, easy to navigate, etc.

The VBulletin style of forum has largely been abandoned in favor of other social media platforms
