I have a 2016 with the dial to change into 4WD. In 4HI, should I be able to back up? I looked in the manual but didn't find an answer. I also searched the forum and didn't see an answer to this. Mine will back up maybe 3 feet and then just stops.
    Thanks.

No, it’ll blow you clear into space and out of the galaxy...

yes you can reverse in 4HI.

Are you on dry pavement? Full wheel lock? Giving it enough gas?

Are you cranking the wheel left or right, on pavement, when you say it stops? A lot of binding would cause a lot of resistance. Unless you mean just stops, then thats something else.

Dry pavement, backing straight up. It moves maybe 3 -4 feet and then just stops.

Give it some gas - aka push the gas pedal.

Why would you be in 4HI on dry pavement?

    It's a 5000lb vehicle. 4wd high's gearing is lower than 2wd's gearing.
While it might coast on its own in reverse in 2wd at idle. It's normal for it not to do that in 4wd. Give it some gas with your accelerator pedal.

I would hope you could use reverse? What if you are backing a boat trailer into the water and want it engaged to pull out? Do you have to wait to go forward with a boat loaded on a trailer to engage 4 HI?

I have backed out of trails in 4hi a few times. You can absolutely back up in 4wd.

    I'm sorry...what? 4Hi is 1 to 1, 4Lo is 2.566:1. There should be no binding period in reverse regardless of 4WD or 2WD .
