I had a blown head gasket on my 3rd gen which was fixed by a shop in my area offering a 36k mile guarantee. I had to take it back a week after it was there to get it fixed again which they covered. Now, another week later the engine light is on and they are telling me it’s probably the wiring harness and potentially knock sensors which would NOT be covered by the warranty and would cost another $1k on top of the $4k I’ve already spent. Should that be something they should have done or at least checked the first or second time they did the head gaskets? Thanks

Well, at least our parts are easily obtainable. New harness cause the connections get brittle? Shouldn’t be covered.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, parts are readily available. Just seems like if they are going through the trouble of replacing a head cover, gaskets, and charging $4k for it, seem like they would check the wiring and knock sensors, but I’m not doing it so I don’t know. Anyway, thanks for the response.

Get a quality knock sensor. You don't want it done yet again. You've hit on the one weak point on these cars and that's the loom for the wiring under the plenum. It's toast after 20 years and the wiring bakes due to engine heat. Next time I have my intake off, I may just rewire everything with new wires. Kind of hope someone will make a replacement harness.
